    Agreed... big discs offer increased leverage... but the cost is extra weight - of the disc itself and the larger wheel (unless some exotic alloy for lots of cash)

    I got 2 x discs machined down before - was only 10 or 20 quid and a very simple operation

    I'll have to ask Bambridge about this first though - his brackets may need a tweak for running less than 314mm - or do we just skim down the caliper (which seems wrong somehow).

      Agreed would be ultimate to find a 300mm ish disc that bolts straight on with a carrier from bambridge or others... Its like dejavu all over again.

          Plenty people are running 314 discs and monos under 16" avus without problems, using a modded seat cupra carrier, no need for another disc. Just get an appropriate carrier for that disc. Its the 323 disc with RS2 carriers that is too close for comfort

            Thats true; but the orginal question in the thread was for something suitable without having to resort to milling.... etc...

            PhilKS2

            I would drop Kev (Bambridge) a PM and ask him if he is going to do (or if he can make one for you) a carrier/mount that will suit the 996 calipers - A8 314mm disks - on 16" Avus wheels...

            It's not the disks that are the problem it's the caliper when mounted with the "As Supplied" RS2 - Cupra - Bambridge - etc mounting bracket's that cause the clearance problem's with the 16" alloys.... As I understand it...

              Here's another suggestion - after much cross referencing the Brembo catalog.

              Audi 314x30 disc as follows
              A = 59mm (total height)
              B = 68mm (centre hole)
              C = 5 x 112
              Weight is 10kg

              There is a Mercedes application for 300x28mm - assuming we can run 996 monos happily.

              A = 59.5 (possibly no need to tweak the existing custom carrier in this dimension)
              B = 67mm (needs enlarged by 1mm on a drill)
              C = 5 x 112 (lucky)
              Weight is a nice 8.4kg

              Assuming the caliper will work with even shorter pins and ordinary pads then this is maybe a less stressful solution... It is easier/cheaper to drill out the centre on this disc than get it on a lathe for radius reduction.

              The carriers from bambridge will likely need a tweak in one dimension to centralise the pad nicely - maybe this would be an Avus friendly variant of the carrier.
              I'll happily be the guinea-pig for dry fitment if necessary.

                This is confusing, I have heard several accounts that the RS2 caliper bracket works with the 996 caliper and the 314x30mm disks, and all of that works under the stock avus wheels, however i have heard that a 5mm spacer (for offset) helps with clearance.

                  A spacer will cure it - of course - then its custom wheel studs or bolts and oddball geometry to be corrected as well.

                    The spacer AFAIK only pushes out the wheels to give better clearance... As per pic

                    It does not help with clearance on the inner diameter of the wheels against the calipers... AFAIK....

                    But I stand to be corrected....

                    If I have time tomorrow I will try and put one of my old Avus 16's alloys on with my 996-bambridge-323mm conversion...

                      Paul;

                      What do you mean shorter pins??

                      If you fit the A8 Disks you have to shorten the guide pins by about 1-2mm so the 30mm A8 disks dont catch them...

                      I think the porsche discs are 28mm from stock, so your Mec disks should fit without having to shorten the guide pins...

                      The only thing I think you would have to watch is how much of the pad overhangs the disk on the outer rim I guess, but if the mounts are slightly smaller this should not be an issue... I think....

                        I had no problems fitting RS2 calipers (spaced accordingly) on RS2 brackets attached to 323mm discs - all fit nicely under the 16's.
                        Clearance is fine - looks great totally filling the wheels too !

                              WTF S-Express - 16" Avus - with or without wheel spacers ?

                              I didn't think the RS2 calipers were much smaller than the 996 monos. Its a thought...

                                ANyone got photos to compare 996monos alongside RS2 (968CS) calipers ?

                                I have 996 monos on the bench that I can measure up, if anyone would like to do same on RS2 calipers.

                                My intuition is the 996 calipers are better cos they dont have the niggly pad clips, but if the RS2 caliper & bracket accomodates the 323mm disc under 16" Avus without spacers or other mods then it is most definitely very attractive.
