Wheel spacers are not needed when using 314 disks and 16" avus, 5 years after i made a batch of brackets and ive never had any complaints.
Yes, they are needed for 17" and 18" avus but thats only due to those wheels having a high offset and clearence issues with the track rod.
I'd be happy to go with custom carriers to take the 314mm disc with 996 monos under 16" Avus - but I do NOT want wheel spacers. How much clearance between wheel and caliper exists with the 'slimline' bracket ? If it is ~3mm then I'm in.

Sorry guy's dont want to satrt a war here, but both Kev and I have been out with micrometer's and as he is the engineer I stand by what he says.
It's my car that has the calipers and disks & wheels fitted & lying in the garage to measure up & I will stand by by what we posted earlier....
If you want to argue about... Fine... Buy some calipers brackets & disks - try them and its upto you what damage you suffer...
I'm not in this for money just trying to give good and clear advice to peeps...
Understood, but someone tell me the clearance and I'll make up my own mind... Did I miss it ?
Sorry Paul,
I didn't mean to reply with your last post...
16 Avus with 323mm disks and 996.351.425 calipers with 15mm spacers actually scratch the inside of the wheel...
Take 4.5mm off the mounting bracket so you can fit the 314mm disks
Then add on another 2.5mm for non spacer = clearance of about 2mm... which IMO is not good enough..... Plus the caliper is very close to the spokes....
By adding the spacers back in it gives a good 4-4.5mm clearance between caliper and inside the wheel... and moves the caliper away from the spokes... Better cooling Maybe??
IMO adding spacers also makes the car look better as it fills the arches... and gives a wider track....
I'm sure its wheel/hub spacers - providing wider track - and increased clearance between caliper and wheel.
I've also felt wheel spacers are a bit of a bodge job... I don't mind them so much if they are used to correct offset on a wacky wheel to something more appropriate e.g. running 18" Avus needs spacer to get correct offset.
But 15mm spacers throws offset and alignment way off.
I though 0.1" was deemed enough clearance (generally speaking)... Which rounds up to my gamut of 3mm. I don't think I'll be generating enough heat to stretch anything by another mm so is probably fine for me. I think I prefer the more modern/reliable 996 calipers than 968/RS2 even though they can just squeeze under 16"Avus on 323mm.

Our feeling was that to offer people the safest option if they insist on using the 16" alloys with the 996 caliper (Not RS2) was to suggest using the 15mm spacers... As it gives a better clearance between caliper & wheel....
As we felt that a sub 2mm clearance for normal road use is not enough.... get a stone trapped... put on balance weights in the wrong place you would soon end up with a knackered alloy...
If peeps dont want to take the advice then its upto them....
But As I See it - Kev as the manufacturer has to issue some sort of guidance for fitting safley.... & If peeps ignore it then its thier LOSS!!!
Peeps - please all take a bow. So much information, and so much effort ! Thanks .
I'm convinced and reckon 314mm discs, 996 calipers and Kev's slimline carriers, spacers and bolts sound like the way to go.
Now I need to track down the calipers ...
Ahhhhahh - Thats where the fun really begins.... Becareful there are lots of different 996 calipers out there & all very tempting... But make sure you get the correct ones....
996.351.425 & 426....
Read this page.... Over & over till you get the part numbers stuck in your head....

Hi Phil, thanks for the pm, i will sort you out a package price for both, and when you come to fit them and you think you don,t need the spacers for any reason just send them back and i will refund you the spacer cost.
