Brake upgrade on S2 3B rims??

    Hi every one,
I'm brand new on the forum. I have since 1 year an amazing audi s2 3b. I like it excepted may be the brakes.

The front pads and discs are a little tired so I'm looking with some interest all the things which have been done one the forum. ok there are the 996 calipers which are very interesting but it's not possible with my rims

I have the 16" 3b rims and I don't really want to change actually.

What are the different possible kit to upgrade the brake with the 16" 3b rims??

ps: I'm from France, sorry for the mistakes in the thread

I "think" the 996 Upgrade can still be done to the Speedline 5 spoke alloys.. Using a slimline bracket by Bambridge aka Kev....

I am sure that if you do a search on this matter it will throw up some information...

If the 996's wont fit under these alloys you could look at fitting 986 "Standard" Boxster front calipers (Peeps with UR's Use these under 15" alloys I believe)... or failing that the 996 Rear Calipers...

As both of these have a smaller depth than the 996 fronts.... The down side is that the Pistons on both these are smaller than the 996 Fronts... But still offer an improvement over the std Girling calipers.

I have all 3 types of calipers for sale at the moment and if you need any measurements just let me know...

Hi Le S2 Audi, you are everywhere on the forum in every threads

      thanks for your answer.

As you can imagine I have a preference for the 996 front calipers but I don't have fund anyone on the forum who has made this upgrade (with the 16" 3b rims of course; I know with the Avus there is no real problem to do).

Anyone in the place who has success this challenge??

For the 986 "standard" boxster, what are the size of pistons (4 plots??) and for what size of discs?

        Piston sizes for calipers....

        996 Fronts have 34 & 36mm.

        996 Rears have 28 & 30mm.

        986 Fronts have 34 & 30mm.

There is a guide to big brake kits on s2central here: http://www.s2central.net/brakes_05.html

Another good guide which talks about fitting 996s under 16" Avus' is here: http://www.s2forum.com/996-brake-upgrade/
With early 3B wheels it will be even tighter though, so with disc machining costs etc it might be worth just buying standard fit good quality pads and discs if they have to fit under 3B rims.

I've never heard of anyone mounting standard Boxster calipers to an S2 though, so make sure you can get brackets before you buy calipers as custom brackets will be costly.

I believe these can go with A8 312x25 discs (based in info here: https://www.apikol.com/#Products,Brakes)

Discs would not a be a whole lot bigger than the S2's standard 276 x 25mm.

                  Nope 34 & 36mm I have just measured them...

996 Turbo or GT3's are 32 & 40mm and they WON'T fit under your alloys as they are even bigger Calipers..

I think Kev now does a bracket to suit... I have PMed him so he can confirm this....

Colesy -> Thanks but I have already read the links you have posted. But in my case it's for 16" 3b. I know it was impossible by the past, but may be now ... there is a solution??

Mouse-> Yes, I think also it is expensive for a minimum gain in term of braking

Le S2 audi-> I'm waiting for Kev's answer (but who is Kev?? a shop tuning dealer??)

                      Thanks to all

and this throws some light on the 3B question...

This thread does with the 996 Fronts..

It can be done but its close...

I am sure Kev will throw more light on the 996 slimline bracket or the 986 mounting bracket...

The fact to be close is not a problem except if the caliper scratch the rim.

                              So wait and see...:mischeif:
