I fitted some on the kitchen table... Her in doors was not a happy bunny... But It's my table I told her.... Women just don't understand...

I would suggest as an alternative put the caliper on the mounting bracket and clamp that in the vice rather than the caliper... Bracket is never seen as its hidden by the disc when fitted...

The cross over pipes are £50.00 + Vat from the dealer... I bought some and nearly died when they said how much they were... so don't knacker them..

        No Problems...

BTW - The crossover pipes are unpainted when you buy them as replacements...

Sorry for the dumb question, Do you need to swap over the pipes when putting the 996 calipers on an S2?

Only when putting rear calipers on the front...

Or when you are doing what Jamo is with the rear calipers on his avant (I Think)...

I wouldn't know where to start as they have conical/tapered fittings and also that rubber thingy in the middle that stops them rubbing on the caliper...

You need to change the pipes over if you are fitting them as leading when they were originally fitted as trailing, or vice versa.

Thats the more technical way of puttting it...

                    As :corey: puts it...

The 996 front caliper is trailing on the Porsche, which is exactly the same as the S2 the large piston needs to be at the top of the caliper as on the Porsche (so would be classed as trailing the smaller piston). If you are fitting these to a leading design then the large piston will end up on the bottom.

If you are using the rear caliper, and there is no real reason why you shouldn't if you are happy with it, I have used rear calipers in some conversions also, just make sure you have the large piston trailing.

DO NOT SWAP CALIPERS OVER FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. KEEP THEM ON THEIR ORIGINAL AXLE!!!

                      What I posted was correct.
What you posted could be wrong, depending on the application.
I have to clarify things which are unclear when it comes to safety critical matters, as I don't want anyone to die due to a misunderstanding.

Never said what you said wasn't correct....

The Question was "Do You Have to do it" on a 996 conversion and the answer is NO if you are fitting Front calipers to the front of an S2...

AFAIK It's only if you are using Rear calipers on the Front...

I could not agree more with the saftey issues...

I made up some stainless crossover pipes for my leon cupra R brembos about a month ago. Had to buy a professional turret-type flaring tool, & make a decent tubing bender for the stainless, but once these were done it was pretty simple:

I really wanted to fit stainless tube nuts, but I couldn't find any suppliers over here in the UK, & postage from the US was $70, so had to resort to normal zinc-plated items.

If anyone here gets really stuck with crossover pipes I'm up for making up some nice new stainless replacements for them. I reckon mine cost me probably about £20 for the pair in materials. Before anyone starts slagging me off for not fitting the rubber anti-vibration thing, they're 304 stainless! 'Nuff said!

but i used a hairdryer from the gf, this way you don't put too much heat into it. together with a flared nut spanner worked like a charm on the caliper i did.

Excellent tip, I haven't done it yet, got the tool from ebay and one uncracked straight away but need to make a trip to use the vice again and just haven't had time
