    Using TT Calipers ?

Prob quite an easy one this. I have tried searching for an answer but not found anything conclusive.

Is it possible to use mk1 audi TT calipers on a coupe to upgrage the breaking power?

If so what is needed? do they bolt to the original carrier mounting points?

Anything else i need to know?

It has been done on a couple of S2's but as you say there is no definitive write up on here.
Most informations available is in this thread. http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=37121

is it actually going to be much cheaper than doing the defacto upgrade of monoblocks and a8/s8 discs. You will probably have more options on that setup certainly pad wise than on the tt's. I spose it depends on what you want out of them at the end of the day, for fast road, they might well be just the job

FYI all mk4 golf chassis based calipers from 280mm upwards are the same caliper. its just the carrier that is different to allow the larger 312mm disc to be fitted to the TT 225/GTI Anniversary/S3/Oct VRS etc.

You may already know this, but it might help you find some dirt cheap calipers to start with. The Larger carriers were about £70 when i last bought a pair. I recon the whole brake setup could cost as little as £200 if you get some cheap bits.

If you're staying 4 stud then Focus RS discs are about right for conversion

Thanks for the info guys, sounds like it should be a good plan.

As some of you know im putting a 1.8t in my coupe so obveously need a bit more stopping power. I have some 5 stud hubs for it so will need to buy new disks, thought i might as well do a brake upgrade while im at it, was just gona put a standard s2 set up on but been thinking about this option for a bit more. I cant afford big shiny 4 pots so it seams a good option.

re2500 - good info on the carriers, will they bolt straight to the coupe lower leg?

will this keep things in allignment?

Acidburn - if you could dig out that info on the disks etc that would be great, why urs4 not a8?

Cheers guys, keep the helpful info coming

alright Jim,some a8s use the 314mm disc same as the late urs4 and the s6,will be easier to ask for discs off an s6 as the shop may well try and flog you ufo discs which would be a disaster

This has been done to my car, if i remember correct there is a small ridge on the carriers that HAVE to be removed, after that i took about 1-2 mm all around just to be sure the carriers would accomodate the 2x5mm larger discs (314x30 vs 312x25).

As for calipers i used a pair from the b5 A4 1.8T.. ATE 57, 3mm larger piston then the one on the TT/RS etc. (ATE 54). And the correct thread for the original brakehoses at least on my 90 20v q.
Maybe it's differentierade on the s2..?
These ATE 57 are for the 288mm discs and i had to grind some material off of these too, that's not needed on the ATE 54 TT calipers.

I'd really like to do this to my 90 20vq too and stay 4bolt on that.
You got any more info, what year etc on these discs and fitment using these other parts?

                            Thanks, Tobias.

Ok bit more on this. I got the carriers to fit well but my probles is now the thickness of the disc and pad combo. Using TT calipers and TT pads with the S6 discs, the discs are too wide for the pad and calliper to fit over. Anyone know the best rout to solve this??

Either have the discs skimmed by about 2 mm either side or have the pads taken down? I dont think removing material from the caliper is a good idea.
