Alright mate,
Need some of those for mine, sod the 16's, stopping is a little more important.
Three questions...
1.) How difficult a job was it?
2.) How long did it take?
3.) How much did it set you back in total (if you don't mind me asking)?
Cheers
Andy
ps (Neal) did you get over doing that rad on Friday?!Cheers'en, AndyC

As a rough guide I would say:
1/ I would not suggest it as a first job but it is not difficult to do.
2/ 3-4 hours if all goes well and the nuts come loose ok.
2/ It depends how lucky you are. The calipers are the most expensive part. a second hand pair of 993 tt calipers can be £400 ish, new, twice as much. Then the disks are not cheap, I assume that you would go for Audi S8 323mm disks £ 50 each ( anyone correct me?), RS2 or seat cupra RS caliper brackets £160 or £24 a pair. Brake pads £50 - £200, nuts and bolts £10-£20, brake fluid £ 10 -£40.
A cheaper way of doing it is to get 996 calipers £170 a pair, Seat Cupra brackets £24, 314mm Audi A8 disk (£30 each from Audi or GSF) bolts, fluids etc the same.
I will be doing a big cost break down in a thread I started http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3486 It should be due some input soon.
There are lots of links in the depths of the Brake section of the forum.

Hi Erik,Originally posted by ErikbDavid,
Where can you get the 996 calipers for 170 pound? The most I found usually go for the same price as the 993 calipers.
kind regards,
Erik
they are listed here http://www.design911.co.uk/
select currency,
go to used / clearance parts
suspension / brakes
and you should have some to choose from.

£170 + VAT for a pair of rear 996 calipers. You really need to use fronts. I paid £300 for a pair of 996 fronts with new pads and all pins and clips etc. Just a couple of small marks otherwise look almost new.Ex 1994 Avant - now driving a Lotus 340r

Bought the monoblocks a while ago - was bored one dayOriginally posted by Avant S2Are you ditching the Hispec's then Leigh ?
. I have the brackets to use them with the 323mm disk but can't find any 17" alloys that I like
Sometime in the future I will have the hispecs up for sale. Someone already has first refusal - but it was so long ago now I'd have to check if he still wants them.
I seem to be gathering loads of bits that I'm not using

There was a pair of silver ones there a day or so ago!.Originally posted by rotoryboyDo you mean the Boxter rears for the front of the S2
The Boxter S rears Are ok or use the fronts for a bigger conversion.

Sorry, I just need to check the setup for the Porsche 996/Boxster upgrade.
Will the 996/Boxster rear calipers be OK to fit behind the Avus 16" alloys?
Would I use the A8 disc's machined down? To what size?
I'll need a bracket making up, where from?
Anything else I need to know? These are the one's I'm looking at in red/silver or black.Attached FilesMark

The 996/Boxter rear calipers are the same size as the fronts but they use smaller discs (24mm IIRC) so you would have to grind down the pad guide pins to allow the 30mm disc to fit. I don't think anybody on here has used the rears before ?
They will just fit under the 16" Avus wheels using 'off the shelf' A8 discs. However it is advisable to machine them down to allow adequate clearance. Mine were machined down to 308mm.
If you speak to martinjs he may be able to make some custom brackets for you or you could get RS2 ones. Somebody mentioned some SEAT ones will fit too ?Now RS2'less

Echo what Pete has said. But to be honest, I'd be surprised if you could open out a set of rears to get a 30mm disk in.Originally posted by Pete_RS2The 996/Boxter rear calipers are the same size as the fronts but they use smaller discs (24mm IIRC) so you would have to grind down the pad guide pins to allow the 30mm disc to fit. 996 fronts will JUST squeeze a 30mm disk in and they're meant for 28mm disks.
996 rears are meant for 24mm disks. Expecting to be able to open them out by 6mm is perhaps a bit optimistic.
Anyone here actually got a set of rears they could measure up ????
And don't forget, the rear calipers have much smaller pistons too.

I am currently running 30mm rotors under my 996 front calipers. I am upgrading to a custom 32mm rotor, and there is room. There is a tuning company here that squeezes a custom 35mm rotor behind 996 front calipers...so they all fit.
