    Rebuilding 996 calipers

Whats the story with getting seals and fitting them? Any issues? Who supplies them and how much? Is there a company that will refurb them?

The dust seals have started to pop out on mine, corrosion underneath pushing them out. I had to cut one of them free and completely remove it in order to fit the new discs and pads.. I've done brembo bike brakes before so I imagine its pretty much the same, ie. a bit of a fiddle.. Should the calipers be repainted or reanodised though if there's corrosion? Pistons are all still moving freely.

only a matter of time before they seize up if the dust seals are fooked. Best to get them refreshed before any damage is done IMHO

I'd strip them, get the soda blasted then painted / PC'd and then polish the old pistons and fit the new seals. IIRC there was a guy on ebay seeling genuine brembo seal kits

I dealt with an ebay seller last week for a seal kit, not porsche but brembo. Reasonable price.

With the caliper on the bench connect an old brake line to the caliper and to some compressed air (gently bring up the pressure) and you'll get the pistons to pop. Using a block of wood where the pads and disc usually are you can get them all to come out evenly.

Don't know about the paint but interested. I've read about brake fluid stripping some types of paint / coating around the bleed nipples. Of course you should be using a see through hose in that case to prevent spillage but that's my 2p.

I'll find that ebay seller now. Maybe Le s2 Audi has a supplier actually.

      Edit: seller id porschecalipers http://shop.ebay.co.uk/porschecalipe...&_trksid=p3686
