  • Talking to the ABS ECU

Have 2 b4's with abs faults, lights on and the abs is off. Got vagcom which works on the later b4 tdi, but doesn't work on the early tdi or the coupe. I say works, it does most except it can't connect to the abs ecu.

I tried one of those snap on jobbies with the massive buttons for fat mechanics hands, which read the faulty codes on the coupe but again wouldn't connect to the abs ecu.

Is there a computer that'll work with these older ecus?

I would suggest you try to eliminate the possible reasons first, check the fuses, measure the wheel sensors, and so on..
maybe you want to change the abs ecu, but that would be my last try..
    just my 2 cents

What diagnostic tool did you use ? What is the part number of the ABS ECU (is under the back seat/passager's side ).

Just vagcom, but also tried the snapon solaris jobby and neither of which worked, but as I said vagcom doesn't seem to connect to the earlier cars anyway. Anyone else had any success with vagcom?

Vag Com is a good tool but depends which version you have. If you don't have supply to the ABS ECU is something normal to not be able to connect.
Try and check the fuses !
