    Bomb costs?

Anyone know how much a new Bomb is - parts, and how much a competent garage would charge to fit it? Don't fancy doing it myself, seems a bit scary!

My bomb's going sick and I hate it: beep beep every day, and pulsing through the brake pedal every now and then.

Dan - its an easy thing to change, just a bit fiddly at times to get to stuff, but if I can do it then surely most people can

I have a feling you wont get much change from £200 new, Vagparts might be cheaper but not 100% sure.

    Cheers,

Dan, theres a place that re-conditions bombs. All you got to do is remove it, send it off to them and voila! It costs about 70 quid.

        Contact:
        7 Star Garage - 01487 831 239

        They're based in Sawtry, cambs.

Great, thanks. I wasn't sure about doing it myself, given the fact that it's highly pressurised?

are there any guides on the net about how to change the bomb?

im not sure if mine is on the way out, but sometimes when you press the brake pedal down there is a vibration, feels like when abs kicks in but not as violent, and the pedal travels futher than it normally does.

            sorry for hijacking post

Yikes, that isn't exactly reasonable is it

oh well, another thing on the list to do in the new year. Should I do the Bomb, or let it bleep a few months longer and upgrade my ARBs?!

Aah, but if the brakes fail, I'll need better cornering response to let me avoid the impending collision

im not an expert in these matters as i cant even get my fuel acconomy above 12MPG,but my brother who used to work foe AM Quattros in Ilminster told me you can use a BMW bomb, same thing apparently and much cheaper. I await to be told im wrong, but hay!!!

                        Gents:

Bomb is rather easy to replace...but to be sure you are ordering the CORRECT one, it may be best to get the part number off the existing one in the car. Also, it helps to have a strap wrench, essentially a rubber belt and a plastic arm, to hold the bomb securely while loosening or tightening the brake line connection.

There's a decent write up at http://www.20v.org/brakprob.htm#bomb, and yes, yours truly did that back in 1996....

My stealer just quoted me £510 to supply and replace the bomb.

                              Ouch.
