Found a few options that would fit my needs. As my handbreak isn't in top shape either I guess I could change the rear calipers+discs also if I found something that fit. Noticed that someone here had a problem to fit Porsche 996 calipers on the back but if I understood correctly the problem was finding a break disk with the proper spacing? Is it a problem to get a spacer machined for this to use on the inside of the break disk or wouldn't that be street legal?

Also am I on the right track with these options? I thought it sounded a bit simple but is the front calipers with part number 996.351.429/996.351.430 a direct fit on the RS2 mountings and everything? Almost to good to be true

Option 1 - Kit w four calipers, used condition. 1000$

    Option 2 - Kit w four calipers, refurbished. $1700

    Option 3 - Kit w four calipers, refurbished. $1250

    Option 4 - Kit w four calipers+pads, used. $1460

The 429/430 have a wider bolt spacing and different offset so do not bolt on the RS2 caliper bracket. There are brackets available from I think VRS and perhaps another Forum member. So you would need to factor that in!
Don't forget that the handbrake is effectively an internal drum brake on the RS2 so the actual caliper does not effect its function. Of course the rears will suffer the same issue as the front eventually.

If you have the capability to make a bracket then this seems a reasonable compromise, i.e larger disc with better caliper within the stock wheel. Need to double check the dimensions though!

          PM sent to VRS

Bah, I should think before I post Then the rear will be a lot harder to sort out. Not sure I'm comfortable with upgrading the front without doing anything on the back tho. Won't it mix up the designed break forces in front/back doing this?

Surely the priority was to get brakes that actually work!
Guess you could sit down and crunch all the variables but considering the factory offered a 322mm option tells you something. If you want to duplicate that its back to the old style calipers. The GT3 caliper is very close in terms of pad size to the big red so that just leaves the disc diameter to sort out.

I guess it's not by much things are altered anyways. Older brakes is prolly a bigger factor to uneven breaking force.

                  Hi,

I had this exact problem on my RS2, Your caliper looks past it, it would take a lot to refurb it and then it would only last a few years and need to be done again.

I decided to upgrade to GT3 monoblock calipers on the front with Porsche 935 Turbo S drilled and vented discs, these needed a special bracket but will fit under the standard 17" wheel. These are the same size as the big reds but don't suffer from corrosion.

On the back I fitted Boxter S monoblocks with Porsche 928 S4 rear discs, drilled and vented, again you need a custom bracket.

The advantage is that this system is effectively corrosion free, and you will be able to order all perts, (discs, pads and caliper spares) from Porsche specialists at a fraction of the price from Audi. For me it was a no brainer. The stopping power is awesome.

I think it is the right way to go, you can get the calipers second hand quite easily on german ebay or others...

If you want all the part numbers then let me know, I have posted them before....

                  Good Luck

Hey Paul and thanks for the good info.

If you have posted them here before I will try to search for it. The custom brackets you are mentioning did you make them yourself? I don't have access to equipment to make brackets myself so I would have to rely on ordering them from somewhere. I contacted a user here on this forum that was selling them before but I didn't get any reply yet and someone else told me that he didn't stock them last time he was asked. If I just had the measurements and steel type that was used I could prolly get someone to make it for me.

                      Hi,

                      Here in the info..

You will need new caliper bolts and those on the back need to be cut small.

Also need to make some brake lines up for the front..

Thank you. I just hope VRS still make these. I'm still waiting for reply from him before I decide on what to do further. I might just get stock calipers if it's hard to obtain the correct adapters for these brakes. I don't want to make them myself as I lack proper tools for it and I want breaks to be 100%

Does anyone know of a shop that sells the needed adapters for GT3/996 brakes? I've sent a few PMs but no reply yet and I kinda need to decide in not to long as I need to orders parts soon

                            Hi,

I bought my brackets from VRS but I know they were made by Bambridge, don't have their contact info but they are on the forum, they are anodized aluminum, very well made and fitted perfectly.

I tried both on PM. I didn't think about looking for someone selling this in Norway before today and guess what I found

The page is Norwegian but if someone needs them you can prolly contact them on email in english. Price is for on so it's 1300kr (about $200) for both.

Just be careful that the brackets are designed specifically for whatever brake disc/caliper combination you want to use. There is the issue of caliper offsets/pad heights and different offset discs to consider. What fits an S2 migh not work on the RS even if the holes are all in the same place.
Shame you cannot get a reply from either VRS or Bambridge.
