Rafael,
Do you think that Big Reds would be any more likely to resist the corrosion problem though? They are the same basic construction as far as I am aware.
I have never heard of this kind of problems on Big reds. All the Porsche 993 tt I have seen seem to have excelent braking (have driven 3 on the past 6 months)
But then again Madrid is very dry and we don't get any corrosions problems here. 700 metres altitude in the middle of the land.
If you have reason to belive Big Reds will get corrosion and monoblock don't just go for monoblock.
If you do go for Monoblock the way I see it is much better to go for the 996 TT setup than the 996 Carrera because you are getting better brakes for very little price difference, as you have to buy everything new.
After your research I see you ended up going with the Audi RS2 big red upgrade kit rather than the custom/porsche part number option. I'm interested in how you came to your choice, I'm guessing because it's the easist and most reliable way, giving good (good enough?) braking results but how about cost?

Sort of. As I said the car was sitting at the garage awaiting rear backplates and handbrake kit. I was aware from this thread that big red was a more straight forward route to porsche OEM brake service items. If you look at the kit it consists of front calipers, discs, pads, rear discs, rear pads. If you then add up multi sourced items there was little cost difference in reality. In addition I was not keen to purchase old calipers without knowing their history. Not sure where 'all' these porsche calipers originate from on flea bay etc.
In addition it was bolt on and original upgrade for the car.
Oh and I got a nice reward from the good old NHS this year
Is there are a possibility to install Big Front Reds from RS2 (that are for 332mm disks) on the back ? Would look good I guess
Great minds think alike. I have been thinking of using my standard fronts on the rear (they are reaching the end of their life)
The problem will be brake balance between front and rear. Also disc size with unique rear offset etc. I have asked Lee and will post any reply.
I'd be quite wary of installing bigger discs and calipers on the rear of the RS2 due to issues with brake balance. I'm also not sure you'd get much in terms of benefit as the rear brakes are'nt as heavily used as the fronts.

Agreed, Got the car back yet ?
While on subject what condition are your rear calipers in ? Mine are on their way out due to corrosion build up and back plate seizing on with torque bolts rounded !

Mine are much the same as yours by the sound of it.
I think Robo refurbished his, although I am not sure quite how easy that was?

It depends how easy the pad slider torx screws are to remove. My front's are much better since I got new sliders fitted at Greg's garage meet. I was fortunate enough to only round one of them off which had to be heated up. DanB wasn't so lucky with his.
I bought new sliders for the rear's at the same time but haven't got round to fitting them yet.

Rear offset is easely solved as I have 2 piece rotors. Will just remove hat and fabricate new on in the machine shop.
I too interested if balance will be good , I have Alcons on front , they must push harder anyway then brembo.
But there is also a hand brake issue. What to do with it ?
