I just want the confirmation that the 323x30 disc & 996 caliper configuration (with RS2 carriers) works in the 16" Avus rim... despite have 8x18's to go on for summertime, I need the Avus rims for cold weather rubber.

100% positive that the 314 fit under 16" although a tight squeeze but the 323 you need 17" or larger rims.
paul, dunno if this helps answer your question (as im unsure of the size differences between 993 and 996 calipers), but i got my "big reds" which are 993TT calipers and porsche 323x30 discs under my 16" avus's, although there was very little gap between the caliper and alloy wheel.

This means, that wheels don't fit. Tires don't fit. Need to buy something cheap and ugly to upgrade brakes .
Just started to negotiate deal about set of 16" AZEV-A . Same guy has set of 17", hovever they only are 7J width, and I will need 205/40 tires with this (now have 215/40).
Do something wider fits under typ85 (not uri) wheel arches ?

I run the 314x30 discs and 996 Monoblocks with 16" Avus S2 stock wheel ET37 with cold weather rubber. That fits and even though a small mod is needed for "safe" clearance. 323x30 will not fit with 323x30mm & 996 & Avus 16".
The disc runs inside the caliper, and the caliper is fixed on your carrier bracket.
If the 323mm disc fits inside your caliper (when the caliper is mounted) then you shouldn't require a 17" rim, so long as the caliper itself fits inside the 16" rim when mounted on the carrier.
Moving from 314mm to 323mm does not move the caliper. It will only be an issue if you find you need to adjust the spacing between the caliper and the carrier to accommodate the larger disc.
I fitted mine today using the RS2 caliper carriers. I had to slightly space out the caliper from the carrier, as the edge of the 323mm disc was scraping against the pad retaining spring.
There is not much clearance between the caliper and the inside edge of the rim. A row of stuck-on weights just squeezes through the gap, and I have 17's on. Deep dish mind.

Yea,
I found that the rotor barely touched the spring clips with the 323 rotor. But since I am an old hack mechanic, you know I can make anything with a coat hanger and spit, , I just bent the four **** of the spring clip slightly down. They hold the pads, but gave me the clearance for the center part of the spring clip to clear the rotor.
Still working after my track day testing.

They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.

I Agree, having had this conversion on for a few days I have noticed some rubbing on one of the calipers, Initialy I just thought that the brakes were bedding in, however my advice would be to anyone carrying out this upgrade to space out the caliper, if the room allows.

Dave, take a look at the caliper from the underside. You will see 4 guide pins that the pads sit on, upon which they slide back and forth between the caliper and the disc.
You need to take some of this material away. The calipers are designed to be used with a 28mm wide disc but the A8 discs are 30mm wide. That is why you need to file off approx. 1mm off the end of the guide pins, otherwise they will foul the braking surface of the disc.
