ABS Pros & Cons

I had not even considered the MOT regards ABS... in my part of the world they don't even do the CAT tests properly as it takes too long so if they spotted that ABS was missing I would be utterly gob-smacked.
Good tip on the B5 sensors - will have to look at those.Paul Nugent

Insurers do NOT like you removing the ABS and you will pay through the nose for the privilege.
Personally I find the ABS on my motor to be the least intrusive on any car I have driven and it has only triggered when it is actually beneficial. On a pure track car I could understand binning it, but if the car sees the road I'd keep it and install a defeat button

I would leave it, I cant brake any better than the ABS, and certainly not in a panic situation. I left it on on track, it saved me going into the back of somebody once, and helped avoid somebody who spun in front of me in the wet.
Ebay sensors are cheap, just need to splice the sensor on to your existing plug.
If you are a track god, or purist then remove I guess.
On the road it just helps stack the odds in your favour, pram coming out between parked cars, car pulls out a junction in the wet, meeting farmer Giles tractor round a blind bend etc, its nice to just stand on the brakes and steer.Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon

Just fit a switch as you suggest if you wish the challenge on track, best of both worlds, and in the scale of building a car its not much hassle.Current-2004 Impreza PPP wagon

Amen to that - good advice - I am certainly no track God - I am swung by the opinion that benefit is better than the downside of weight and complexity. I will add the cancel switch just to have the option to experiment.Paul Nugent

I replaced all of the sensors on my UrS4 and faced a 150 eur price tag on the rear ones. I just picked up the FWD sensors (17 eur) which are almost identical (wire length and some rubber mountings differ) and problem solved. Maybe it's the same case for the coupe.Comment

I needn't have worried so much about the old sensors - I had renewed them in the past and must have applied enough copper and water pump grease to keep out the rusty horrors.
The front left came out with no drama once I had the hub carrier in a vice. Did use a little plusgas to help it out.
Hopefully the others are as stress free.
