caliper 351.425/426 file pins or reposition

I am about to overhaul my recently acquired 996.351.425/6 calipers but before I do I will be fitting them to the car to ensure no further work will be required once overhauled and powder coated.

I am told there is a need to remove about 2mm from each pin with a grinder.

Looking at the calipers there appears to be a grub screw that is holding these pins in place.

Has anybody ever tried to move the pins rather than grinding them down?

I was going to drive out the pins on mine but decided to grind them off instead when I saw that they were pinned in place. I used a small metal hose clamp as an end stop so as not to grind too much off.

Those pins have purpose related to keeping the pads in place/limiting twisting due to torque during braking and probably should NOT be removed.

Just sayin'. Brembo engineers put them there for a good and valid reason and therefore they should remain, albeit shorter to provide rotor clearance as needed.

I was not going to remove them, I was thinking of backing them off and not grinding the pin.

Certainly looks like a dowel locking the pin in place, hoping it was a grub screw.

Looks like grinding is the way to go.

Split dowel, easy enough to knock out and back in again, I did this on mine as some idiot who owned them previously had not ground the ends square so I took them out and did them on the bench to ensure they all matched in length and were square.

The pins have a recess for the split dowel to ensure they locate correctly, easy enough to file a new one in a slightly different place after I ground them square (otherwise they would have been slightly too short) before refitting.
