Just a thought regarding the whole boost/vacuum bit, can we not included a "vacuum accumulator" i.e a chamber with one way valves that will hold an amount of negative pressure so brakes will still work if you are on boost ?

that is what the vaccum servo does already. It stores it not only for when you are on boost but for when the engine stalls as well. Something like the accumulator.Obviously it doesnt last long, which is why you cannot do left foot braking while on boost, but unless you do that regularly, there is no problem

i have just got some info that the steering pump should also be replaced with one from a model that doesnt have the dual system as the one on our cars generates higher pressure and therefore by taping one exit it may reduce its longevity.

            anyone has such experience?

As my brakes are still not working, we are going to try and replace the master cylinder as well, as i have one new, although i doubt this would make a difference.

              Can someone verify either:

              1) Should a different power steering pump be used (A4 one) and if so, which part number
              2) OR how does the s2/rs2 dual vane pump need to be modified in order to keep it, as it makes life easier that way?

may be a numpty comment, but why don't you take a pump from a 2.3 10V 90/coupe to make it work?

i dont know if any other pump would need customising, ie brackets or other hoses to connect to the steering rack OR a different steering rack alltogether!

I run an ABY with Vacuum assist from the IM with a check valve, no probs, even a little left foot braking i no prob.

Fot details on fitting a 2.3 10v pump see the first post of my build thread i made a small adaptor plate from some 10mm aluminium plate, this is so that the 10v pump would fit the ABY bracket.
See also post #9 for single pumps that fit the aby bracket (some v6/v8 pumps from memory)

I have done this for a year.I'm now thinking to go for something bigger like dual diaphragm booster.

                            dual diaphragm?

Is dual diaphragm booster the same as a tandembooster?

There are brakeboosters that work with both pressure AND vacuum called tandemboosters, the old 200T type 43 had one.

Regarding the problem with manufacturing brackets for A4 pump, there is also the possibility of fitting an electric pump instead, like the Opel Astra F pump i think has 100 bar but not 100% sure. Eliminates need for drivebelt.
