    Ds 2500 Pads

Just asking if guys that use these pads have any noise issues with them, I fitted these pads about a year ago and from the start i was getting a buzzing noise from the n/s front wheel the car has been garaged over winter and this w/end i have put it back on the road, on going for the Mot there is now a noise from both wheels and gets louder the faster you go i have to turn the stereo up to drown the noise the sound is like metal grinding the same sound as if the dust shield is touching the disc the tyres are all new the wheel bearings are also new the only thing that i did not do was fit a new set of anti rattle plates to the pads WOULD THIS CAUSE THE NOISE ? My mechanic reckons it sounds like wheel bearings rather than rattle plates but as said they are new and oem Any ideas would be very helpful and also where can i get a pair of 330x32mm discs that will fit our cars.

Personally I agree with your mechanic, sounds like wheel bearing are gone. Usually you'll get drone/whining noise which will get louder the faster you drive.

As i do feel that it does sound like a wheel bearing they have only been on the car about 11 months i would expect an oem bearing would last a wee bit longer than 2000 miles.

Ray are you sure it's not just corrosion on the disc faces from being parked up over winter?

I can sort you out with some 330x32 discs, but will depend on the hat height you need.
You are using 996 turbo / GT3 4 pots right?

You could take discs off and clean up with wirebrush to get rid of all the rust and clean pads with some sandpaper on a flat surface.

              Hi Alex

yes mate 429/30 calipers i bought some pagid merc discs but they are about 5mm to much and i can't get my adapters off the hub to place a spacer to bring the caliper out , so iff you can fit me up with a set that would be cool bud. as said the noise has only since fitting the pads and as got worse now that i have just fitted a set of new tyres which are verdistien so not cheap ones and i have used these for the last two sets.

I will do that today while i wait for some discs as i don't think i can stand the noise for to long . And my drive to work is 1/2 hour i will end up going .

I reckon your hat height is wrong and a little bit of corrosion on the unswept area is dragging on something. I assume you haven't got any back plates if running uprated brakes.

From memory I had to remove the dust shields for the Porsche/Audi A8 set up so that should eliminate that. I have never heard a wheel bearing do anything else than drone. But after 11 months I think it's unlikely to be that anyway.

In the long term the solution might be a set of brackets designed for the particular discs you are using.
There are at least two different versions of Merc discs. Both have different offsets from the A8/S8 discs you used previously. One moves the disc outboard and the other further inboard. It sounds like you have used the latter if you need to space the bracket out from the hub carrier to centre the caliper. Perhaps the disc is actually fouling the caliper/pad pins or is making contact with something on the hub carrier.
Might need to do some investingation to see if there are any signs of contact.
Stands to reason that if you have changed discs to one of different dimensions both axial and radial then a new bracket would be a better solution than trying to adapt an old one. I know a certain member was working on a similar combination but I think he was going to use the other discs. Perhaps he might have a solution for you!

Well just spent the last three hours cleaning up all the rust from the discs and there was a lot of rust, also fitted the anti rattle plates and cleaned up the pads of which had some small indentations in the n/s like if they had caught something and some small pieces have come off the face of the pads it's the n/s wheel that is making most of the noise took the car round the block and there is still some noise from the n/s wheel won't know until i go for a drive how much has been illiminated.

Alex these are the discs from ebay.

Are you sure those discs are not fouling the bottom ball joint? Hat height is really too high on them...

Looked and did not see nay comment to the fact that Merc discs do not fit an Audi, unless the centre dia , is machined to fit the larger Audi hub. 1mm difference if I remember correctly.
