    Decided!

Rght have finally decided to go for the 996 porsche brake upgrade. I done a search and have read through some 20 pages of info on this upgrade. I just want to confirm that i have got everything in order for performing this upgrade, taking into account i have the standard 16'' avus wheels. I take it i need the 996 calipers which i think i have found some from a fellow forum member. A8 discs size 314x30mm which i will get machined down to 307mm? custom carriers or can i go for the rs2 carriers? There was something else i needed which i cant remember comes from a rs2 damn! any way am i on the right track
3'' Longlife Exhaust, Koni Adjustables, H&R Springs, Full RS2 Setup with Mr Nugents RS2 Chips (just need the RS2 Airbox)

yep thats them i got a few prices from vagparts for a few bits needed for the upgrade. i think im looking at about £500 all in. Just one question can i use the rs2 carriers without any modification or woud they still had to be modified to fit?

I wouldn't use the RS2 carriers. If you use the SEAT Cupra mounts they are much cheaper (£35 a pair rather than £100 a pair for RS2) and you can have them machined to position the caliper just right for using unmodified A8 314mm discs under Avus 16" wheels. I have used this combination, finally got it all fitted this week, and I have 3.5 mm clearance inside my wheels. With standard RS2 carriers you will have 2 mm clearance or less and they don't have enough meat on them to increase this. The SEAT carriers are plenty meaty and are a much sturdier piece of kit even after machining to size

If you think about it long term, getting the brackets done is a once only operation, well twice if you don't get the measurements right first time like me. If you reduce the diameter of the discs then you have to do this everytime you change the discs. This may be as often as every year if you abuse your brakes so it makes sense financially to do the brackets and not the discs.

cheers waveydavey for your advice. Where did u get your seat cupra carriers machined to fit? If i got them machined to fit then i would not need to get the discs is this correct? thanks again

after going through the the threads regarding this upgrade i got my little check list here goes: 996 calipers, A8 discs 314x30mm, rs2 brake lines, pin kit from porsche, rs2 bolts 4 x n10065002 + 4 x n10088003, seat cupra machined carriers.
Is that all i would need?

They sell a lot of calipers on the german ebay. Here have a look at those:

                    calipers 1

                    calipers 2

Just because you've used the Seat doesn't mean that you should be telling people not to use the RS2 ones.

You can use the RS2 ones straight out the bag and have no problems. Tried and trusted method, prior to the discovery of machining down seat calipers.

Pays your money and takes your choice, on a personal choice i have the RS2 carriers but other memebers have recently had success with the seat carriers.

Have i got this right. The rs2 carriers will bolt on no problems but the discs will need machining down. But if i go for the seat carriers i will need to get them machined down or modified and the discs would not require any modifications to fit? just a bit confused on what carriers now.

                            Depends on the wheel choice.
RS2 brackets won't work under 16" wheels. You have to take some off the caliper or the bracket.
Why pay £90 for brackets to machine some off when there is the Seat brackets for £35?
On 17" wheels or above then the RS2 is a straight fit out of the bag, even on 323mm discs!
