    Coolant Temperature Warning Light

I have an RS2 and the last few weeks I receive a red warning message regarding coolant high temperature on the instrument panel.
The message lights up and a warning beep also sounds for few seconds. Then it goes away. The frequency and the time that this happens is completely unexpected.
It happens randomly and looks like it has no correlation with the real temperature of the coolant.
When looking the coolant temperature gauge on the instrument panel the temperature does not exceeds 90oC and when it does the fan switches on.
I have to say that the ambient temperature is quite high the last month (20-32 oC).
Having said this I do not think that has any influence because I have seen this message appearing at 08:00 the morning half a minute after I have switched the engine on and switches off after a minute aprox.
Can anyone has experienced something similar?
    Any suggestions?
    What should I look for?
Is the sensor gone bad /how do I check it?

Is it coolant temperature or coolant level? Is this the Autocheck warning you are referring to?

Are you sure it is the temperature and not the hydraulic fluid warning light?
Is it the red warning no entry sign thingy in the check display?

Coolant level! If it's not the temp that's most likely.

I'm experiencing a few problems with this at the moment...

I had the red warning light and beep - it was low brake fluid. could it be this?

Yeah it could be, also check the power steering fluid level as that made mine go off a few times.

If it's coolant related you'll get the thermometer in water symbol, is that what you're seeing?

Yes . I see in the autocheck two "horizontal" lines with a thermometer located in the middle (red light). It is the coolant temperature sign.

Search the forum but possible culprits are coolant level sensor at bottom of expansion tank & coolant temp sensor at back of block. MFTS unlikely as usually when it dies the coolant temperature display stays at zero. S2 central useful too. This all assumes coolant level OK

Could be the MFTS (multi function temp sender) actually, give it a tap with a long socket extension or similar tool, if the warning goes away there's your problem, last time I tapped mine was 2 yrs ago
Otherwise check the level sensor by disconnecting it underneath the header tank.

yep MFTS with me as well i just tap it and put up with it. if you live in a hard water area then filter the water befor toping up. the scale stoped my level senser from workimg. i took the header tank off sealed the holes and filled with boiling water and a descaler repeat till clean.also good if your detailing your engine
