Make sure your belts are not inside out.

Will i've had the exact same problem twice on my 7A, June each year it dies

On a somewhat related note, are you using the 7A alt or did you have to change it out for a 3B unit when you did your conversion? I belive the 7A is 90A and the 3B unit is 110A or something like that.

You could try just changing the brush assy.

Yeah, just done mine actually. Volt regulator/brushes unit, About £15 from the dealer (exchange).
It just bolts into the back of the alternator, though I took my alt. off the car so I knew that I had put the new unit in properly.

no BRY i sorted that little problem, with a thinner belt, that other one turned over again!
yeah it is a 7A one
put my other 7A one on on friday night, 600miles on saturday took its toll on that one as that died of a similar death last night,

think it is a voltage regulator as it does still charge just not at the correct voltage

Earth strap problems are sometimes the cause of alternator failures. check engine earth strap and the battery one.

If I remember correctly on the 3B they are on the left handside looking into the engine bay. There is a strap near the engine mount across to the engine . Make sure that there is no corrosion where ends are bolted.
