    ECU reading codes...

    Hey,
i have a question.I asked someone in charge for the vag-com program and cables about my problem(i cannot read the engine fault codes, but i can read everything else),and he said that if my car has 3 plugs(the third used for blinking out the codes),then this is how it was made in the early years.I can read the engine with a led and blinking, and i can read everything else with my VWtool or vag-com software.

is that true?do you have 3 plugs or 2 on your cars?
i didnt thinktha what he said sounded really professional, but i think i will try blinking out the codes just to see if there something coming out from the ecu...

    cheers

You can read the fault codes with both Vagcom and the led.
We have three plugs on our S2s, last itme I looked!

          i know i know!thats what i thought!!
but is it possible that if vag-com cannot read the engine fault codes, that a led could??
          it sounds strange!!!

You can use a DVM set to measure the resistance between the respective pins at each plug end.

done it with a fluke multimeter, just use buzzer test and bob's your uncle! its quite weird really, the wires arnt shorted, theres +12.3v across the black plug and theres +12.3v on the single pin from the blue plug to gnd! think that sounds about right, but the led just stays on when i try and trigger it with the jumper, no flashes or anything, and vagcom cant even find it!

Check the Fuse, i blew one of mine before which took me a while to figure out, on a 7A there is a large red holder in the fuse box with two fuses in it, one is for the ECU and the other is for the diag connections. I would guess an S2 is the same...
