    Turbo timer

    Found this:

A turbo timer with boost gauge.
Has anybody installed a timer before on a S2? And what are their experiences with it!

    Cheers

No need for a turbo timer since Audi had the foresight to build a system which pumps water around the turbo after engine is switched off. If its too hot that is so would be a bit of a waste of cash.

All well and good if you have a Jap car with no system like that.

Sorry Greg but really the electric pump is not enough. If you drive her hard and then instantly turn off the oil can make a mess in the hot turbo. Oil stops circulating instantly and the electric pump does not do miracles you know.

Let your cars idle for a while!

I always let mine idle for a while with the bonnet up after a thrashing to let her cool down!! But the ironic thing is i thrash it to work cos iam late but then have to sit there in the car park for 5 mins untill it cools down! one day i'll learn!!

Whats a turbo timer? Does it monitor oil and water temp and tell you when its safe to switch off?
Money is everything! Second to Power of course!!! But money breeds power??

some of them let you lock your car and take keys with you whilst engines still running and shuts it off automatically after so long
ive heard that if you dont use any boost for your last mile of journey, has same effect.

My clifford alarm has a timer function which I've used as a turbo timer.
Most modern alarms have this function

There used to be a device that the UR guys fitted to their cars which would store some oil under pressure and let it run through the turbo bearings after the ignition had been switched off, have not heard of this for ages..

Usually i just drive around nice and easy for about 10mins after a bit of a thrashing to let things cool down while there is some load still on the engine rather than let it sit and idle

I'm gonna try it. At least it'll spare some time sitting in the car waiting and waiting.........
And there also a boost gauge in it, with a preset maximum boost warning. Cool And a lot of other gadgets. I like gadgets

I use an HKS turbo timer that a customer asked me to remove from his imported Scooby. It just allows the engine to idle for 30s to 10mins. They are illegal in this country, but most of my driving is either home to the driveway or to work so I use mine everyday.

I have a colleague with a 1.8T A4 (19" OZs, H&R coilovers, AP big brakes with 6 pot calipers up front) - breathed on engine but a long way off Kitten power!

However he does have a Clifford alarm with various functions:

Turbo timer which allows engine to run for a preset time after taking the keys out, locking the car and walking away.

Another function allows him to leave the engine running until he returns - useful if you're popping into the paper shop!

He also has the very 007-like ability to start the engine remotely (great on a winter morning I guess!)

Why is the HKS turbo timer (or any turbo timer??) illegal?

I had a timer fitted to a renault 5 turbo way back in 92 (before I discovered Audi's) and it let the car run for a set time depending on the temp.
Is illegal here because you are not allowed to leave a car running unattended
I know this cos a friendly policeman gave me a right ticking off for doing it.

Insurance companies take a dim view on turbo timers. Even specialist companies decline to insure cars that are left with the engine running, no matter how secure they are. Driving off boost for even 5 mins IS enough to cool down the turbo, the electric water pump takes care of the rest.
