@ Ross, I believe (correct me guys if I am wrong) that you will need to do the wiring stalk mod to make the dipped beams (HID's) stay on all the time whilst Main beam is activated. There is a thread on this somewhere if you search on "Extreme HID"...

got to do it dude...they make such a difference....as far as I am aware you only have to change the bulb to fit the old school lights.....Comment

Hi Ross- exactly, the 3B uses an H4 bulb for dipped beam, and has a separate H1 for main beam only.Originally posted by Ross
The ABY/ellipsoid uses an H1 for dipped beam, so you'd have to get a different HID kit (although whether the ballasts and control units are any different I don't know).
VAGParts also do a very naughty "EXTREME HID" kit, which is recommended only for the ellipsoid users - this I understand is a much higher powered ballast, so you get even brighter lights, but you'd really need the better focused lens of the ellipsoid to use this - the old reflector H4s would just give too much scatter...Ex S2 owner, now running around in an A4 Avant quattro...
