    Temperature gauge

    I have a non-functioning temp gauge in a 91 3B coupe.

I've had the MFTS out and tried grounding pin 1 to see if the gauge goes full scale, and it doesn't. So I've now got the clocks out to try and test the wiring between clocks and sender, but pin 1 on the MFTS has a Brown and Blue wire for the temp gauge. I cannot find a Brown and blue wire at the clock end, does it change colour before it gets to the clocks? Also has anybody got a wiring diagram or a test for the gauge once out of the car.

    Cheers

I've now had the gauge out and tested it, it works fine with 12v across the terminals.

I've also established that this pin:-

provides the signal to the gauge and with 12v on the pin the gauge works. I also managed to find the blue & brown wire in the yellow multiplug so I tried testing the continuity of the wire from the clock multiplug back to the MFTS multiplug and there is nothing , ignition on or off.
Does anybody know if this wire is suposed to have continuity or does it go through a relay or a fuse?

Somebody out there must have wiring diagrams for the S2

Just scanned and uploaded the wiring diagram for the temp gauge for you.

You can view it here. My scanner is rubbish so it's a massive picture.

Looking at it the temp gauge is fed 12v from inside the dash insert and then earths out through the MTFS. The wire connects to pin 2 of a 10 pin black connecter in the auxiliary relay carrier and then goes on to pin 6 in an 8 pin connecter in the right hand side of the engine bay.

I assume your fuel gauge is working? If so the 12v feed inside the dash insert is working (unless there is a serious fault internally on your dash insert) so the problem must lie with the cable back to the sensor.

        HTH,

        Ben.

I have the same problem except mine keeps working then all of a sudden goes to sleep on long journeys. Then about 5mins later comes back to life. It will do it two or three times on the way to my parents on the mway.
