    Speed check

Hi, my S2 has a will of its own, with cloppers hiding around every corner, i use my speed alert regular to make sure i dont go (too far) over the speed limit. From what i gather is when the car is stationary the button activates the OBC check mode where it goes through its sequence of vital's checks. When your moving and press the button it beeps and displays the MPH in a ring and when you go over the speed you pressed the button, it alarms out at you.
Lately it has been behaving odd, sometimes it works no problem, other times it brings in the OBC check mode even while traveling , and i cannot get the speed check to work . What does the speed check unit key off, does it work via the abs, or the gearbox speed sensors, has anyone had this fault as i rely quite alot on this and would like it working again.
    Cheers

If I recall correctly, it came in standard around 1993 with the advent of the ABY.
If your car has cruise control, it will not have it.

Sorry, I've no idea where it takes it's reading from, but the fact that it sometimes works, says to me a dodgy connection somewhere. Maybe remove instrument panel and check PCB for broken tracks and wiring into/out of connectors on the rear.

There's always one to throw a spanner in the works isn't there.
Was a dealership that told me that as I know three cars with cruise that don't have it, and I enquired.

sorry to change the subject, but what does the REC button do next to my air con button? Recirculate air?

still lets outside nasty smell in when i press it but just makes my fans blow harder.

if that is what it does, how does it do it?

I have it on my 1992 3B and used it yesterday trawling up the M40 to Birmingham for a meeting. Its activated using the left hand knob (technical term) on the dash. Get to your desired max speed, say 50mph, press and hold the nob until it bleps once and the KM/h shows in the autocheck matrix screen. you'll notice noe everytime u reach 50+mph then it will warn u.....perfect!
To disable.....just press and hold until you hear two beeps...and its off
