Yup agree with you alex, I've had this since I first fitted the hid's at times it was just enough to kick the ballast into working but all I ever done was went straight onto main lights and never had a problem with them.

I'd like to get this sorted but since i'm waiting for the lockup (going to see this wends) then I might have a look at this whilst i'm removing the engine for a certain someone on here

I'm assuming that it's not an issue moving it to pin1 as the picture shows it pin 1 already
Did anybody find out what the brown/yellow wire was for? I've just fitted elipsoids and HID's to my 3B, moved the yellow wire from pin 7 to pin 8, but I have nowhere to plug the brown/yellow wire back into. Pin 1 on mine has a green/yellow wire in and there are no more spare pins. But, everything seems to work, including the motorised adjusters.

@Error404, Found this the other day, might be of interest for working out the wiring difference. Top unit is from a CQ20v, bottom unit from the 94 Avant. Note the early CQ unit has an additional three pins.

Mine looks like the top one. Looking at the avant one, if your moving the brown/yellow wire to pin 1, it's not connecting to anything anyway.

I spoke too soon, I'm getting the same issue as other early 3B cars where I'm getting a low voltage feed to the dipped beam when on sidelights. Did anybody get to the bottom of this?

Sorted this issue now - it is the switch that makes the difference. Either get a later stalk, or:-

Remove yellow / green wire from position 1.
Remove grey/yellow wire from position 9
Move brown / yellow wire to position 1
Move yellow from position 7 to position 8

Insulate yellow/green and grey/yellow wires and tuck out of the way. No more strobe effect on sidelights

Nice one, I've just done this on mine, no more strobing! Thanks for Persevering with this one

If your interested in new HID's I've had 4 sets off this seller now and no problems with any of them. These are the latest 50W ones that are in the S2:-

I know this is now fixed for you, but the issue is caused in most cases by the requirement from around 89 to 92ish by law that cars in the UK had a 'dimmed dip' when the sidelights are on and the ignition is on/car running.
