    Strange goings on :-(

Got in the s2 this morning and as i started the car i thought i would turn the window wipers on at the same time not thinking. The engine started up but the wipers did not wipe. So i turned them on and off but still no wipers. I kept trying and eventually they kicked in so i thought it was because of had started the engine at the same time. Got in the car to come home from work tried to open the windows and nothing, also no wipers no indicators I thought must be a fuse so i tried them all but they are all fine. Played about a bit with turning things on and off and ventually got everything back. Whats going on? Is it my circuit board on its way out? Sorry for the long winded post. Any ideas

Had a problem like that on the old 89 2.2coupe i had. Well I was driving home one night and the lights went off for no reason whatso ever, leaving only the side lights working. Next day everything worked, next day nothing would.
Turned out that the fick-switches on the steering wheel were faded/worn whatever the point is it wasn't cheap to fix. Also came in 2 halfs.
      After that all was well

Thing is i have had no problems at all with the lights or anything until i started the car the same time as turning the wipers on. Went down the road a minute ago it was fine going to the shops then coming home nothing again. After a period of trouble free s2 this is really annoying

Is there a relay or anything that could control the lights, indicators, blower and wipers?

the previous owner might have chocked to death from the extreme G force and is haunting your s2.

Do you ever hear creaking noises coming from the back?

I think it would be worthwhile checking the ignition switch.
My avant has given me most of those symptoms a couple of times. turned out to be the spring action of the switch, which was stuck halfway between the start and run positions.
I have a new switch to fit, but have not done so yet.
I'm wise to it now so make sure to turn the key back to the correct position.

Had a play around to see if there is any pattern to when the things do not work. It seems as though if one of the affected things i.e. lights, indicators, blower is on when i turn the car over then none of them will work. What could this mean? Really have no idea about this at all bu sooooooo frustrating

Not something stupid like the key in the ignition switch

On the rare few occasions my bro has driven my car the lights, in particular the indicators have not worked at all, and I assume rest of the lights.

Thinking that something was amiss, The car was pulled over stopped, the key taken out and put back in again and everything was fine.......

Sounds like a faulty X-relief relay.

Controls all circuits that are 12V+ with ignition / engine on, except when starter motor is energised.

Yep. Either the X relay or one of the contacts on the ignition switch.

Is the x-relief relay expensive to buy and fit? Sometimes with the ignition on everything works then when i start the engine nothing works? Anyone got a part number for the x relay? Thanks for your help

I have found that very occasionally when turning the key in the ignition to start the car, the key stays in the fully turned position to the right opposed to springing back to the halfway position.. if you see what I mean.

When this happens I get the symptoms you describe. Just turn the key back to the halfway position to get things back to normal.
