Trade it in for a 3B, the "true and original S2" Stu.. back me up here

My car isn't starting so well in this cold weather either... with this talk of dead batteries perhaps a group buy is in order!! Any recommendations on a good battery for the S2? As i really don't have a clue if a halfraud's one is as good as any, if there's a specific rating I should use etc... and I may well need a new 'un before the winter is out!!

    Cheers

Until an expert comes along, my advise would be 'GO BIG'....summut like a 74Amp/hour is what I always us as I regularly have to leave my car at airports for several weeks at a time.

I like the jump plugs idea. I think the best bet would be to hard wire in a jump plug with suitable gauge wire (Jas, I had not seen just how flimsy that conditioner jobbie is) and then convert the conditioner to have the opposite connector and make a set of jump leads with the same connector as the conditioner.

Finally hide the battery flying lead in the boot and hey presto....condition at home or jump when out and about

      Cheers n

      Si

P.S. right, who is gonna test that out for me

Ross - I bought the biggest firkin Bosch Silver one I could for mine a few years ago. Cannot remember the exact rating, but it was a good buy ~40 quid at the local ECP at the time. I'll see if I can dig up the specs - I think it would fit the dopey RHD 3B battery location.

You can buy small loom to connect to the battery with a socket that the conditioner plugs into. I am going to install this into the bulkhead below the rear bench meaning I don't have to take the seat off to connect it...
Oh thats a vaguely exotic looking thing - I just nabbed a Solar powered one as it was ridiculously cheap and I don't need to worry about mains conditioning.

Yep I got the BIG Bosch silver thing as well.

Optima would be nice if it was a bit cheaper!

Cheers guys! I work so damn much atm it's rare the car ever sits for long but I'm not confident it's gonna last a 2-week holiday!

Did you fit it in your 3B keeper?

Big Bosch silver one for me too last year. Think I paid around £60 for it, so seems I was ripped off looking at the price Paul paid.

Stick with the Bosch Silver Top batteries. They're good, and are exactly the same as the £100-plus Varta batteries.

Yellow-tops are deep cycle, and are a pointless buy unless you need that facility, like running a powerful stereo or full beam lamps for extended periods with the engine off.

The biggest Silver Tops are under £50 from Costco.

I currently have a Halfords one in the avant (660cca and 110ah) but it's seen better days, through fault of my charging system. It'll be replaced with at least 2 Silver Tops, but only because I need the excessive Ah.

                      Hello!

Also the in-car computer system drains quite a bit of juice.

I said with the engine off. Even then there are much better and cheaper alternatives.

It's your money, waste it as you see fit.

Chill, as you so rightly put it's my money i can waste it as i see fit in your eyes

I'm aware of the alternatives having used most of them, i've always used an optima battery due to low voltage drops i've found with them and it if i want to split charge i can (not that i will with my system).

Now then wheres the engine strap and battery earthing point in an Avant anyone?
