Reverse lights out

Can't remember the section, MOT is only a yearly check to ensure your car is road worthy.
If your reversing on the road itself without a reverse light you can be charged by an officer if spotted.Leave a comment:

That's correct it isn't for MOT however plod can do you very badly for it
I know a young lady that was.Leave a comment:

I'm sure you want your reverse lights to work Ross, but are you aware that you don't require them for an MOT? Just incase this issue is stopping you from MOTing the car.Leave a comment:

Good write-up Steve
Looks like I missed the boat so I'll get down to Audi on tuesday and order one up!
FYI, it can be done with a 3" downpipe and airbox in place, but you need a very skinny arm
Cleaned the switch contacts today with no luck, and tested the connector to ensure that's where the fault lies.
Cheers

Same how I did it except used a ratchet spanner and I have AC and a 2.75 inch downpipe!
Ross has a 3" downpipe and AC IIRC
Good luck!Leave a comment:

Okay so here is my take on the reverse switch:
I reckon you could get your hand down between the back of the airbox, the brake fluid reservoir and the steering arm and downpipe to unplug the connector and even change the switch IF and a big IF, you don't have AC in your car. If you have AC like me forget it!
Instead, I had to remove the cover of the airbox, remove the drivers side headlight and remove the plasic cowlings where the airbox trumpet fits through behind the headlight. By rotating the base of the airbox towards the front of the car, this gave my skinny arm enough room down to the switch.
First I removed the connector, which has more than enough slack to come back next to the IM for testing. I jumpered out the two pins on the connector and sure enough, with the ignition on, the reverse lights came on. Plugged it back in again to double check and the switch is faulty!
I then managed to thread the socket and ratchet down the gap, put them together blind right handed, swap hands and crack the switch to get it started with my left hand. The switch then came out easily.
MikeS2 is currently in the process of supplying a new one to me he had lying around, so hopefully fitting is a reverse of removal! (Thanks Mike).

Yeah but they were on back order when I bought one ( or two as the 1st one broke when we tried to put it in ). Might not be now though ask Parts Daddy.Leave a comment:

Think they're a tenner from Audi so not sure it's worth it? Drop me a PM if you can make it cheaper

For the record, how did you get to this switch in the end? You can't figure it out and leave the thread unfinished!
Think I may have an issue of corrosion on mine but struggling to get good access to clean it up
