    Drivers el/window need help

    hey guys...

my electric window on drivers side has suddenly stopped working ... ... its not the motor.. had that replaced recently and works fine ...

when i press the switch i can hear a relay activating and deactivating and with the lights on they seem to get slightly brighter when i press the switch and bk to original when i press down ... (this is only slight)

one day it did work but i had to press it hard and fast ... but now nothing at all

    ideas anyone?

    thx chris

Pull the small cover back between the door and car body (that all the wires pass through) and check for any breaks in the wires that are visible...
I had a problem with failed door locking that originated from this location...

The relay clicking is the contacts switching over: this would indicate that the electrical circuit to the little coil in the relay is ok, and that the relay is probably mechanically intact. It doesn't mean that the electrical circuit which is supposed to be formed when the contacts switch over is happy about life.

Try looking at these threads to see if there's anything that could help...
              Electric window thread 1
              Electric window thread 2

Best of luck: there are other threads/posts which searching will reveal if the above doesn't take you forward.

                    What about the regulator??
Problem I had in the past on a previous Coupe was that the grease inside the regulator had gone all hard, was like flippin concrete.
The motor was fine, but it really struggled for a while to turn the regulator until it finally just gave up. Same as is happening to you, the relay would just click.
It's designed to do that as a safety cut out, in case of say a hand/arm head etc etc in the way as the window winds up. Also stops the motor burning out.

Fix was to remove the door card, then VERY carefully remove the plate covering the regulator on the back. IIRC (gotta be 6 yeas ago now) I undid the three nuts that secured the motor to the door frame, that gave me room to get at the torx bolts that secured the plate on the back of the regulator. Carefully removed the regulator out of the housing "careful" being the word as you don't want it unwinding, and then cleaned all the old grease out. Was also half full of water too. Repacked with new grease and worked fine.

Worked for me, may not be your problem, but every little helps.

Also, whilst I'm on, whats the runners like?, got a good coating of grease on them? Are the cables routed over the small green pulleys Ok? Are the small black adjusters on the end of the white cable sleeving, fixed into the the two brackets OK? One on the bottom left, other on the top right.
Both cables coming from each side of the regulator should be tight, not guitar string tight, but not slack.

It could also be that the relay is fine, but the thermal cutout inside it is goosed, but then I'd expect it to do that on both windows AND the sunroof. You don't say, but is the sunroof and passenger windows ok?
It's one large relay that controls all three.

                    Jas..

Sounds like it could be the thermal cut out as this will only stop the motor from workin would mean the relay would still click

not sure where the thermal cut off is
