What happens when you turn the key in either the drivers or passenger lock James? do you hear the pump working? it's located behind the rear passenger trrim on the drivers side and is easily heard..
If you can't hear anything at all, most likely the central locking pump is dead, or a fault with the wiring to it. If you can hear it whirring/whining away, then this could mean thare's a leak in the pressure lines to the doors. Most likely area for a leak is where the line passes through the rubber boot from the car body to the front doors.

Ah ah. Yes the S2 could come with a remote central locking alarm. Mine had one fitted. IIRC it was an alarm made by scorpion for Audi.
What does the fob look like? Can you get a pic?
Mine was borked over by QRSport a couple of years ago. They left the main battery disconnected for nearlytwo weeks which let the backup battery go flat too (even though I told them not to )
Audi said they could fix it, but at 80 quid an hour and 200 miles from home, that wasn't an option, so had it ripped out.
I now have a seperate Cat 1 immo (that take place of the alarm) and an OEM central locking kit from vagparts. Not sure if the OEM vagparts kit fits a 3B pump. Marty will know.
Toad do a central locking kit for Audi vacuum central locking systems, I had one fitted on my previous 2.3e Coupe. Long time ago, but IIRC was about £80 fitted.

So do you have a remote, or did you think the torch unlocked the car?

I ment remote but you awnsered that any how, cheers John
If you want to be really flash, and it does take a bit of doing... you can buy a Cobra remote alarm, for use with Audi flip keys on the modern cars... buy a couple of flip keys, fit the blades from your old keys to the flips, and recode the keys to the Cobra alarm....
You need a friendly alarm fitter and a few quid more than is necessary for a standard alarm, but it is cool to have a modern flip key, with working remote buttons on it......
(edited, as I originally put Scorpion alarm, and it is Cobra, not Scorpion.... my brain hurts...)

The bulb in that key fob is quite expensive from a dealers, for what they are
Take the bulb to a Vauxhall dealer, they are pennies rather than pounds .
Or maybe try Ben (s2avant)
