  • Alternator repair specialist near hertfordshire?

    Hey guys!
i accidentally touched theback of the alternator with my spanner and it sparked, when fitting the oil pressure switch. It now Does not charge the battery below 2000rpms .. but does above this.

Are there any alternator repair specialists around? or is it worth just swapping out for a working one?

    Thank you..

(I managed to drive to cornwall and back... then broke down)

It'll just be the regulator, remove it, two screws, and get the part number off it, buy a new Bosch item (not a cheapie) and refit.

Yeah back of alternator might have a cover held on by some small nuts. If so remove this and access the regulator/brush assembly which is held on by two screws.

And please disconnect your battery when working near the alternator or the starter motor. Have you ever seen what happens to a spanner when you chuck 200 amps through it?

Massive thx bro! I did just this!
it was hardto find the exact regulator, but i think i got one, semi matching the code on the regulator. It looks the closest one i could find.

.... £13 worth a pop, as opposed by £408 from the garage!!!!

Don't fit a cheapo one! Get a proper Bosch one otherwise it could fry your ECU.

Indeed, cheap ones just do not last, Bosch or nothing.

If the part number is even slightly different, it likely won't fit, otherwise why have a different part number....

Also depends if it is the one that actually fits(!)

ok so ive cancelled the order, its an aftermarket part.... meh!!! they quoted me £110 though for an original...

In the meantime I have contacted bosch and they gave me bosch service centres I could get them from. So I contacted a local one and gave my part numbers and now awaiting responses.

I will post my findings to help you guys out. Massive thank you again guys!! after the scare with blowing my last ECU!!

Ok guys, so the Bosch guy couldnt get hold of this part so I have purchased the regulator from this website, which matches the car to the regulator and also looks exactly like the regulator in the picture!

I hope this helps you guys also! (it states it is a Bosch)
