Have a problem with the fuel gauge on the S2 it works fine when it is full and about 3/4 but when it goes below this it just drops right down to near empty ...auto check system starts telling me low petrol so on ......I have sender unit and pump from coupe but does not look the same ...has anybody changed this over and got any good pointers for me as it looks like a right pain in the **** to do
The sender is an easy job to do on the S2 coupe. Just a case of tipping the seats forward, unbolting the fuel tank cover plate (the boot floor plate). Bleeding off the stored pressure in the fuel lines, then pulling out the pump and sendr assembly as one.

yes,had mine replaced a few days ago.ine didnt go up to full.Did excactly as graham said.nothing serious to get.Only make sure to buy the one for your model of vehicle as these correspond to the fuel gauge of your dash.
Have you callibrated it on the dash, there is a little adjustment screw to callibrate the gauge behind the right knob which sticks out from the cluster IIRC. I'm sure Jason mentioned this a few years ago. When mine is full it only shows 7/8 full, and i leave it like that as it means i must have more than its reading and my tank never runs low.

There is, check out S2central section on dismantling the cluster to see a picture of it.
BUT!!! Note, this will only align the gauge to show what you want it to show, the computer will still show what it did before you adjusted the gauge.

When you pull the end of the thingy to calibrate the fule guage, if you put a longish thin scewdriver down the tube thingy you can adjust the calibration for the computer.
Just stripped insrument cluster to replace computer and clock, and i accedently came across this.
If your not sure what i'm on about i can post up some pics in the morning
hello all,yes please post pictures.I went to a gas station to make sure i wasnt robbed on the previus one(here in greece some stations pump air instead of gas sometimes) and it turns out im full.So after reading a few posts,i used a pliers to turn the screw for calibaration and before i managed to turn anything, the gauge started to climb on its own to the full indication!!!!!
Well i'll be damned!this car has a mind of it's own then!So i waited a little bit,and i only udjusted it a tad.I also marked the factory position to be sure in case i need to take it back where it was.
im not sure about the other thing you mentioned xgordyx,so please post pics if you have them!
cheers

First of remove the cap from the calibration tube to reveal a hex shaped hole from witch you can adjust the fule gauge itself by using an allan key.
Next insert a long thin flat screwdriver down the tube (i'm just using a piece of wire for "demonstration purposes" as i cant be bothered to go to the garage for a screwdriver)
I've removed the auto check calibration board to show the tube is hallow
This is the calibration board and it's the blue thing you will be turning
The board back in place (next to the big blue conector)
Hope this helps
Sorry about the focus on the pics the cam wasn't wanting to play the game today lol
thank you very much for the pics!!!
now more to the point, what are you excactly calibrating when you turn this blue connector?if i understand correctly you are making the computer see the extra fuel you have by adjusting the needle with the allen key?How much do i turn it??

I have no idea as to how much to turn it, the cars in a million and one bits atm and will be like that for quite some time lol.
Correct me if i'm wrong as it's been a long time since i've driven the car, but is there not a bit on the computer that tells you how much fuel is left in the tank? If i'm right in thinking you'd just fill the tank and then turn the screw with the long scewdriver till the maximum fuel capacity. Like i say it's been a while since i've driven the car so i could be talking crap about this lol
actually the com tells you how many kms you can do but that depends on the driving you had the the mean fuel consumption the last 30kms you drove,if we say that we put it to zero.
In that case it's a bit more tricky to work out
I wouldn't like to say without having a play with it my self then, it must be possible to calibrate it. Got a few ideas in my head as how to do it but the way i'm thinking is a lot of bother to do but i could be totally off the mark as i cant quite remember what all the functions do and how different driving styles effects them.
Hopefully someone will come and clear this up, if they don't i'll post my results in about a years time
