Under dash set up - What are these?

Main project thread is here http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthr...=23127&page=13

The Electrical questions I have are in the project thread but since not everyone is interested in it....

Can anyone tell me does this look about right for the 3B or is anything missing? I know the yellow block is hanging down in the picture but does anything fit onto it when it's secure in the bracket?

This is the yellow block with 2 wires already feeding into the back. Does anyone know if the other wire with yellow spade connector should be attached to the back of the yellow block too? And of so which connector? And again... what should be attached to the front side of the yellow block when it's in the bracket?

There are a couple of plugs hanging down quite far back. I know the brown, blue and black are the diagnostics plugs but I don't know about the couple of others hanging about here

    thanks

DOnt worry too much about unused plugs at this time - there are some in the loom for optional / engine / vehicle specific equipment.

I'll look up on that yellow connector if I get some minutes Monday lunchtime. Can you trace the wires at all to get any inclination on where either connects to. I ask as there are hundreds of schematic pages to sift thru for a Coupe and looking for a black/yellow wire is gonna take a LONG time.

cheers Paul. I'll investigate and see where it comes from before you go on some mind boggling hunt.

I don't know if it could be a result of the wiring not being connected in there somewhere but I hooked up the car battery (even though there's no engine in it) to try to get the passenger window up the last inch or so. The electric mirrors both worked OK but there was no life from either window motor. Do you think they should have worked if the elec mirrors worked?

      cheers

I'll have a look at that, but I think they are separately fused.

that's what i'm thinking/hoping for the randoms down the back by the diagnostics connectors. Just that yellow spade connector hanging there that has me confused. And I don't know if there is supposed to be a relay or something stuck to the front of it.
            cheers

that would be good news. it would be pretty bad luck for both window motors to be dead. Or sal could be the devil himself?

                Mirrors are S18 (5A).

Windees have a special thermal fuse in that relay panel (20A) fitted to any spare slot.

Yes - that looks like the booger - one side should connect to Terminal 30 (Pin 2) of your windee relay - numbered 285.

Tother side goes to unswitched 12V feed, but relay is only energized when the key is on and X-relay is working...

Hahha - when you turn the key ON, check that you see 12V on pin 1 (Terminal 15) of 285. If not, then your X-relief relay is hosed or missing (Number 5 in the engine relay panel).

engine relay panel - is that the one under the dash or under the bonnet? (sorry - mind is bamboozled with all the issues I have going on at once)

ah yes. i'll check the wire tonight when I get home and let you know. what is supposed to hang off the front of the yellow connector? I assume it has to be another relay?

Yellow multiblock is the instrument illumination circuit, anything that needs to light up with the dash lights gets plugged in there. Switches for heated seats for example plug in there. All the connectors are the same, think of it as a multiblock.

Spare connectors are for various options, don’t ask me to remember which is which. I think the onboard computer uses the small single wire yellow plug, and the four pin blue connector is for the cruise control. Bottom three are your diag connectors, and no idea what the round red one is for, never did figure that one out.

                              excellent stuff. cheers mate.
so the yellow block that's dangling in the pic is in effect a multiblock? the 2 single wires with yellow plugs connect to the back and you reckon the other yellow plug dangling should join them? and there shouldn't be anything attached to the front face there?
if need be i'll hijack dm80 to call round and compare with his.
