    got a problem

I was doing the coilpack/sparkplug/helicoil repair to the s2 the other night and after I got everything all back together started the car and everything was ok. I left it until the next day before I was going to take it out and when I started the car to take it out the garage it ran ok again then I noticed that the wires from some of the existing coilpacks had bare insulation where they come out the back of the coilpack cover and they were smoking and sparking due to making contact with the cylinder head then the car cut out
I taped up all the bare connections and covered with heat shrink insulation but the car won't start now, it just turns over sounding healthy though.
Any ideas as to what I should be looking for?

      Fried Power Output Stage(s) ?

I would suspect though it would run rough though unless you have damaged both of them.

      Are the POS fused?

      More questions than answers, sorry!

Power output stages are mounted on the bulkhead and provide the supply to the Coilpack as directed by the ECU signal. There are two each with three outputs. One powers 2 coilpacks, the other powers 3 coilpacks. (The one doing 2 coilpack has a spare channel).

There is a component finder diagram on the Forum somewhere which might help.

                Cheers,

                Steve.

Yeah sounds like the fuse. Open the fuse box and you'll find it under the little RED cover that says motor on it.

Check them both. I bet one is blown.

                  Good luck

just remember removal of the two fuses will wipe the ecu errorlog, just in case you're wanting to double check with vag-com, as bo says they're both held together under a little red cover at the front of the fuse box

Guys - PLEASE before asking question like this - SEARCH the forum and chase sites like www.s2central.net for technical info. They won't always give you the answer in one go, but will at least allow you to better form your technical questions on the forum.

I will make an effort to compile something like a Motronic fault-finding guide but its going to take a while.

This AAN Power Output Stage (POS) info should help for your car:

                          http://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/149771.phtml

                          and

                          http://forums.audiworld.com/s4s6/msgs/83085.phtml

For what its worth, the shorting bare wires at the back edge of the coil packs should have killed the coil fuse(s) so I can't see how you found them to be okay.

If the pos has failed how much are they to replace?
