Help With Vagcom

as title....i plugged the car into yhe laptop and no communiction is possible..i have the ebay lead ans 2+2 connector...i have been into the test feature and the comms port is ok but it says no comms to interface..i only used vag com an hour earlier on my pals golf5 and had no problems...anyone help....
just had a thought while typing,i did click on the obdII function compatability whilst on the golf,would this cause any probs?

i have just also tested the 2+2 connector with a continuaty test between the 16pin end and k/l line and power and that is ok.....could it be something on the car?the only thing i have replaced is the after run pump and sensor..also checked fuse 21(power for diag)that is also ok

maybe a silly question but do you run vagcom with your ignition on and alarm immobiliser deactivated?
my immo deactivates the ecu so I was getting a comms error - until I turned off the immo

yes,ignition on..and even tryed it with engine running

Ebay leads, if you search the forum they are notorious for not working with the S2!

i have had it working loads of times b4the light on the unit works ok, so there is power to it,just no comms
where can i buy a decent lead?ross tech?

Hmm in that case, check the 2+2 adapter is pushed on far enough I had that issue with HPmuirts car, also Jas11n had an issue where he used a vagcom lead on another car and it fried the lead!

Ebay leads - bag of shyte IMO - the originals are expensive from RossTech but they are brilliant. You can get this adapter cable thru other official outlets as well, but I personally avoid all of the far eastern knock-off rubbish that floats on the bay. You get what you pay for.

Well I can recommend the following two places to get VAGCOM cables:

http://www.obd2000.de/ - this working works with version 3.11N og VAGCOM and I have no problem.

www.vagproduct.com - works with version 5.X of vagcom they also sell a nice 2x2 adaptor for 12 US$.

Running both cables without any problems. I use the one from OBD2000 for my S2 and the one from vagproduct for newer cars.

sorted....went and bought another "ebay lead"today for £12..hooked it up to the pc and it works a treat(not sure for how long tho)..so imo it was the car i used it on previous that fried the lead as someone else said...i will now be getting a proper one from rosstech as soon as funds allow..alternatively i will have to charge at least £12 for each diagnostic to cover the price of a new lead everytime i put it onto a different model..lol
