Brake warning & ABS disable button?

Whenever I drive my car enthusiastically the brake ( ! ) warning comes on the dash and beeps, the brake fluid is plenty above minimum so my owners manual says its likely something wrong somewhere else in the depths of the electrics... Is it likely to be just a split wire or something actually wrong, how much does this matter?

Also, earlier my ABS switch packed up, I can no longer switch it off, it still switches off with the diff lock button but not on the dash. Just the switch at fault?

    Ta!

Anyone help with the ABS problem? No longer switches off with the diff now either and the light on the diff button doesn't come on (diff itself still lights up)?

It started working for abit after I posted this thread but it's given up again now, any ideas? I can't drive around in snow with this ABS it's dangerously useless!

Oh also, could I pull a fuse and disable it permanently?

You could pull the ABS relay...

Either the bomb is knackered, or more likely from the what you describe the diff-lock switch or ABS switch is faulty. It could also be caused by the ABS unit itself, though doubtful.

make sure the fluid is full enough. put a bit more in see if it stops. wide bottle means it sloshes about a bit

Sorted the warning - just topped up fluids but it won't let me edit the original post.

The ABS switch will ocasionally work, or flicker then stop working. Do all 80's have this button? I think my chances of seeing a cq in the scrappy are slim!

What number is the relay and where is it?

its the same as a difflock swtich, with a different face on it - you can use it to test to see if it is the switch causing the problems
AFAIK all early ABS equipped cars had the cancellation button - HTH

The diff switch isn't even a little bit similar to the ABS one

And of the 2 80's in the scrapyard, one didn't have the swich and someone had already had the other one, and the A6 there didn't have one either

The diff switch is the same on some models.

The relay is on the ABS unit i believe, there is a plastic cover screwed on and it is under there, i think!
