Dead Indicators Part II : Getting annoyed.

Brief description, when turning on the indicators with the stalk or the hazard warning stalk the relay clicks on/off very fast. bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt noise and no flashing lights. However the alarm does flash all four lights so the wiring & bulbs are ok. I bought a new relay and it made no difference.

From relay under dash there are three wires, brown, black/red, and green/white/black. Brown is earth, black/red is power in and the other is the output. From + & - I get 12 volts. But NO current, i.e. will not light a light bulb. (Would explain why the relay clicks on/off furiously)

Using the + (red/blk) and an earth from the battery is the same, however using + from the battery and the - (brown) wire it does light the bulbs. Therefore I’m thinking the power to the relay is the problem.

Next step I pulled the fuse for it under the bonnet in the fuse box, 25amp I think, looked fine, stuck it back in and everything starting working fine. ...for a little while then died again.

Checked all fuse’s, relays, and cable connections to the fuse box which made no difference.

Q time, I assume the + to the relay (red/blk) comes from the fuse box, then through the indicator stalk, and then into the relay? ....so would it be a correct assumption the indicator stalk is at fault??

    Thanks,

    Mark.

P.S. If I’m missing something obvious please shout.

Sounds like a switch fault although check the connections first

Just took the switch out of the car, unfortunetly i dont have a little torx to take it apart so all i can do is spray contact cleaner inside it. I did discover the wires go into the right side where the hazard warniing&wiper stalks are. Both sides join in the middle with metal contacts which were covered in greese from the horn ring. Dont know if that was my problem as its all working fine now after putting it back together. Fingers crossed it works in the morning.
