Wipers won't return to home, no inermittent wipe

Down to the little niggles now,

Basically the wipers will not return to home automatically, when you turn them off they stop exactly where they are. Also there is no intermittent wipe, you click it down one and nothing happens. Full wipe and fast wipe are fine.

I am guessing it is either the Stalk, Relay or Wiper Motor, has anyone had a similar experience?

Hmm, I remember reading somewhere that when it snows and people clear their windscreens with the wipers it breaks a piece of inside the wiper motor, hope it not that. I was going to give a relay a go see what happens, anyone got a second hand one?

              wipers

it,s not your relay, inside the wiper motor is a contact switch, these will open when the wipers hit the park position, the fault lies at these contacts, when you power off at the stork, the relay will cotinue to drive until the wipers hit the park postion. thus opening these contacts, check the guts of the wiper motor.

So its a case of cleaning the wiper motor out with some degreaser or something like? which product could you reccomend for this? i've got the same prob plus a very juddery rear wiper.

Looking inside the motor it seems the grease has become very hard and gunky.

Mine did this for a while... I replaced the 229 relay with the No99 and it sorted out my Issue...

I do have some No99 relays for sale.... http://www.s2forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44129

Now I'm not saying that these will cure your issues but it did sort out mine!!!

And i now have a programable intermittent wiper - Bonus!!!

My wiper motor was completely fine, it was the actual stalk that was the problem, the contacts can end up burning out and corroding. I initially rebuilt my stalk which worked, but after about 5 mins smoke started to come out of the housing as the contact burnt due to poor connection.

I ended up getting a new set of wiper stalks off here for about £15

Mine was doing exactly this. It turned out to be the relay. Replaced with a used but good one and all was OK.

spray contact cleaner into the stalk contacts...my rear did this and after a shocking quote from audi to change it, i tried a quick spray and it solved it. been fine for the last 10 years

If you have really laboured wiping action or the motor noise is louder than normal, the axles from the linkage assembly to the mount points are probably corroded. Had this happen on our A6 recently, they'd give up wiping all together - not ideal on the motorway you need to remove the whole assembly knock the circlips out and then then basically clea out the crud and regrease the shafts. when i hit the single wipe after doing it they went so fast i thought they'd end up on next doors garden

regarding the gunky motor internals, any electrical cleaner is fine, use any electical grease (white) to repack and check the contacts its perhaps so dry in there the contacts have just stuck good luck.
