I need to make up a new power cable from battery to fuse board. Will be using 25mm2 cable and wanted to re-use the terminals off my existing cable - is it ok to solder and heat shrink the connections given the high current etc?
I only know enough about electrics to fill a postage stamp

yep. for huge gauge cable I use crimp lugs like the one posted above. crimp, then heat with a blowtorch until the solder flows in, then pack it with solder. cover with heat shrink. failproof connection.
