Indicator Problem

Went for a bit of a drive last night and the indicators started being very intermittent in whether they would work or not...

They have never clicked off automatically (are they supposed to?) and when you turn the wheel with one of the stalks down there is a buzzing coming from what I assume is the relay. With the buzzing they start turning on and off and then the problem seems to fix itself for a while.
The hazards work fine so am I right in thinking its a problem with the stalks? Are all the indicator stalks from coupe's the same?

yes they click off... I think at a certain age stalks changed...

I had a problem like this once it also effected the lights after a while its the tracks in the base of the indicator stalks, all coupe's and avant's are the same bar cruise control and trip computer being fitted to your or the donor car.

Change the stalk - I had a buzzy one on the A6 once. Very intermittent as you describe too.

My 3b had the same problem when setting the stork to turn left, buzzing from the relay. hazards only worked on right side. Swapped the relay still the same then all of a sudden the indicators work fine and have done for the last week. Bought a spare set of storks prior to the problem going away but time will tell, maybe dirty contacts !
