    Upgrades to Audi key

    Greetings folks,

A long story, to get to 2 short questions.....

For some time now, along with a full RS2 upgrade (minus the exhaust which Sonic is going to donate to the HP cause), Monoblock brakes, Konis suspension etc the most important upgrades that I have been planning are either one of the following: -

    1. Convert the bulb in the S2 key to an LED
    or
    2. Convert the key AND the scorpion alarm to an Audi flip key

Now, the faster of you will realise that each has a major flaw - the key uses a 1.5V battery but you cannot buy 1.5V LEDs and the Scorpion electronics require a 12V battery, which does not fit in the Audi flip key, neither does the Scorpion board.

Well, I have made some progress on the flip key: I have shrunk a spare Scorpion board and found a smaller 12V battery but until I can find someone who can recode the Scorpion fobs, I am not willing to risk it with one of my 2 actual fobs.

So I have turned my attention to the Audi key.....
    Key 1.jpg

Which is now fitted with an LED bulb
    Key 2.jpg

Which is powered by a 1.5V battery
    Key 3.jpg
Very bright and like $10 lady say - love you loooong time

    So the questions are: -

    1. Can we still but these keys as blanks? My second key does not have a bulb so I need to buy a new blank and have it cut.

    2. Anyone know of an old Scorpion dealer that still has the reader/writer for the 918 fob?

    Cheers n

    Si

Which begs the question, why the hell would you want an lamp in your key if you have remote central locking and never put your key in the lock?

Double locking, i know on mine the alarm triggers the central locking but will not enable the factory IMMO circuitry, you have to physically turn the lock in the drivers door for that. I just got in the habit of locking it twice for the added security.

The torch is a usefull little thing, though it was funny to watch a mate flashing the light wondering why the car wouldnt open

The LED came from Ultraleds.co.uk but any 5mm ultra bright white LED will do.

The battery is the standard battry for the Audi key - an LR9 1.5V coin cell

I think that is a good enough answer for you

Since I have to carry the key and it has a built in torch (which is dim, the bulbs blow all the time and the batteries never last) why not convert it into a bright, useable torch, with a robust LED which rarely drains the battery - simples.

What surprises me, is that no one asked how I am running a 3V LED on a single 1.5V battery :mischeif:

              Cheers n
