The ambient temp display requires soldering, as the mini 2mm bulbs are soldered directly to the circuit board.
Its also possible to replace all the bulbs with LEDs, that way you illuminate the heat problem.
Red leds also give the illuminated parts of the cluster and gauges a nice colour.
Not sure of the cost but can be bought on ebay or from main dealer. There are a few different ratings, 1.1w, 1.2w, and 2w bulbs, each type has a different colour base. I "think" the main cluster uses 1.1w bulbs with an orange base. Outside temperature gauge needs taken apart and a new bulb soldered in place.
Off topic.
Sure does Mark, thanks again for mine, still reveling in being able to view the boost level on the S6, the mpg, and of course the outside temp gauge, thanks again.

As long as the LED's are 12v they will work, but they look crappy IMO as they dont light up as well as a normal bulb. LED's tend to be directional in that they emit light straight up from the top so there not much good at lighting up the temp gauge or instrument cluster.

You want T5 12v - 1.2w capless bulbs so they look correct for the aux gauges and heater controls. Diff switch is a bit different if i remember correct.
I've got loads of spare bulbs from when i did mine if anyone wants to take them off me.
