    illumination lights packed up

weird one this, checked all the fuses and everything is normal.

basically, out of the blue, the dash and heater panels no longer illuminate when I turn the headlights on. no idea why, so any suggestions welcome? anyone had this problem?

    thanks

It could be the dimmer switch on the speedo pod, they crack and everything goes dark. It can be replaced with the speedo removed.

but would that take out the heater panel and centre console illumination as well?

either way, thanks for the tip, will have a look at that

before u take anything apart, play with the knobs on the speedo fascia 1st! one of them is a dimmer!- iirc the one next to the clock adjuster!

otherwise, check rear plate lights/glove box light (same circuit) for a short

5amp fuse in fusebox provides power to dash lights/ rear plate lights/glove box!

I knew about the dimmer actually, didnt do anything, its a black hole at the mo, which means nighttime driving is out as I cant see the speedo at all.

glove box is out of the car and disconnected - the lights were working fine yesterday. and I checked all the fuses, I think specifically, 12 & 19 pertained to the lights, but I checked all as a matter of course.

bizarely tho, my central locking all works fine now...

Check the glove box light and or the number plate light. If either are shorting you'll lose illumination lights

ok, managed to get outside and the numberplate lights are dead, so I guess that points me in the right direction - thanks for the tip guys. Going to go through the fusebox once again and see if I missed something, not really that electrically minded, so where else would I need to look if fuses are OK?

If glove box is out maybe glove box light is hanging down shorting on something?
