Non Working Avant Rear Window - Common Cause ?

I have experience of three Avants that have one of their two respective electric rear windows stop working.

I have not yet had the time to check what is wrong with them, but was wondering if this had happened to anyone else and is there a particular fault that is generally the cause of the failing to work. The window switch at the driver’s door and at the rear door itself won’t trigger the affected window, so I assume it can’t be both switches going faulty at the same time.

I’m thinking a break in the wiring loom at the rear door "hinge” area, or a child overheating the motor by keeping the button pressed when the window is either fully up or down.

Is there a thermal cut out that burns out, but can be reset, or does the motor have to be replaced, or stripped down ?

If one is so inclined, presumable the motors can be stripped down and all the old stiff grease replaced with fresh grease ? Should one be doing anything else when it is apart ?

The windows in my Avant are very slow in operation, has anyone overhauled the individual motors and also the mechanism of the four windows.

Did it make a noticeable positive improvement, and do they have a guide or any comments they could post ?

    Any feedback welcome.

    Thanks.

Hopefully someone may know what has caused this problem, I guess it still could be a motor, or a switch. I have got a few switches laying about and I have plenty of window motors from Avants which are only £10 if you end up needing one.

I have had the windows stop working a couple of times on my avant, and yes two windows not working at once .Turned out to be the switches themselves.
Try taking the drivers grab handle off a swap over the connecters from the non working ones to the working ones, that might tell you if its the switches at least. If it is James as he says has loads of spares available.

I know on mine its the motor itself that is dead, easily verified with a multimeter to see if power is switching at the motor. I believe there are thermal cutouts in the wiring loom but they should reset when they cool down again. Basically probe for power from the motor backwards until you find the fault.

        Bravo you have a PM.

On my avant it was the motor, I'm not sure if they seize up from a child holding the button down or more likely from lack of use.
