    Trip computer vs fuel gauge

Out of the two which is more reliable between the trip computer and fuel gauge?

where do each get the signals from, I presume fuel gauge is the sender and the trip is a combination of the sender/fuel gauge and the ecu to calculate economy.

Reason for asking, I picked up (yet another) car yesterday and the fuel gauge was reading low even after putting fuel in it so I relied on the trip computer which wasn't as acurate as i'd have hoped

they both use the same sender in the tank mate. The trip computer uses the same signal from the sender as the gauge to calculate range using a recent average of mpg. You can adjust the gauge and trip computer independently though!

Fuel gauge after putting in fuel only took it just past the red and for the amount of fuel it should have took it up above quarter, nearly half way. Trip went up what i'd expect to be the correct amount and was fluctuating about right for the journey and speeds that we was doing. Fuel gauge went way past the red and trip was still showing 60 miles left. Fuel pump light came on where expected.

I'd suggest someone has been at the mechanical adjuster for the fuel gauge and wound it down.

There's a guide to setting it up on Paul's S2central.net site.

i drained the tank on the scrapper s2 and i thought id ran it dry according to the fuel gauge.I managed to drain just under 5 litres of fuel.

when you set the gauge at its lowest you run out of fuel with the needle half way in the red.....so i found out a few months ago. Then randomly got a push from the tanner brother chef's off the telly
