    Regulator woes

Looking for some advice, dear forum, as the coupe is in last chance saloon.

After shelling out near dealer prices for a new driver side regulator when mine packed in, I discovered that I'd bought the wrong one (for the later coupe rather than for my B3 1991).

I searched high and low and had a number of let downs from breakers in the UK before forum member Nik0las () helped me out and shipped one from Bulgaria to me. I went to fit it today, and unless I'm being stupid (quite likely) I can't see how the motor can fit

Can anyone advise WTF I need to do to make it fit or if it's completely wrong? I don't know if I can buy a 3rd regulator at more than £100 per time

    Replacement regulator motor mounting:

The one you have fitted to your car looks like all the others I've seen. The replacement looks like a manual winder unless I'm mistaken?
Unless it attaches to a different motor?

I feel your pain Sidrick !
I've owned my coupe around 5 years now and replaced the window mech 3 times but actually bought around 5 of them
A lot of people think they are interchangeable but they are not because the top bar of the framework is contoured differently
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

Amen to that. Since mine is a late 91 it seems to be on a chassis break for just about everything and I have to wade through a sea of misinformation online and sellers who don't know their **** from their elbow (hopefully this instance was an honest mistake).

It's depressing for something as small as an electic window to have kept my car off the road for about 6 weeks now. £160 for the first regulator, £50 fitting for it, £137 on this second one..... that could have had me a set of B6's almost

I know its 100plus miles from you but there was 2x b3 coupes in upullit inverkeithing 2 weeks back when i popped in,both had offside mechs in them still.totally forgot you were needing one.hopefully they havnt been binned already as my local one is savage at slaughtering off complete cars after only a week or so

What's wrong with the one you have there with the motor on it? I wonder if you could swap the cables and motor over? Or are the cables the same length on the manual one? if so maybe you could swap the motor and the gearbox winder bit..

I repaired the driver's side one on my ur with a bicycle brake cable. I was a right fiddle but its still going strong after a few years..

The one with the motor on it is the later regulator that doesnt properly fit the door frame.

but is the cable and drum on its own NLA? 'cause if it isn't this would seem to be the easier way to go and avoid your specific regulator problems.

When I had to repair mine a few years ago I just bought a new cable and drum for around £50 and then fitted it to the old regulator mechanism and motor with the help of some very useful photo heavy helpful postings on here. Part number 895 837 726B. You do need a 1/4 or 3/8th 11mm socket slit up the side to fit it but I'm happy to send you the one I butchered
