  • VW 1301 resistance checking!

For those not familiar with this bit of kit its basically a VAG version of the Nazi Enigma Machine. Rather than just expressing a resistance as a particular ohms rating, the VW 1301 is to be used instead. Unfortunately the required setting on the VW 1301 was not the actual value in ohms, so using factory documentation to test something was a bit problematic. I have just stumbled accross this:
    http://www.bentleypublishers.com/tec...01.testing.htm

Hopefuly that should allow the subsitution of a fixed valued resistor to simulate the VW 1301. If somebody with better computer skills can capture the chart and post it, then perhaps we can sticky it as a reference.

      Cheers!
Links come and go so its useful to have it posted up.
You may have to extrapolate. For example the coolant gauge setting on the S2 is 58 on the VAG 1301 so a 38 ohm resistance seems logical!

As you know,The OFRM states only two tester values (resistances) to test if the gauge is working or not at high and low temps.
For high temps a resistance of 38 ohms should show a reading of 110 +/-5 degrees C on the temp gauge.
For low temps a resistance of 288 ohms should display a temp of 50 degrees C or below.

PS. The VAG enigma code can be "deciphered" by first dividing the VW 1301 resistance units by two and then adding 10 to get the actual resistance.

For example, if we use 560 from the above table and divide it by two gives 280 and adding 10 gives us a resistance of 290 ohms which is with the observed tolerance of +/-3.

To confirm what Nuvo suggested, I took the data he supplied and put it into Excel to see what the best fit is. Turns out is is darn close to Resistance in Ohms = (0.5* VW 1301 Setting) + 10. See below:

            94 UrS4 V8 6 spd manual avant
