    central locking.... bane of audi

so i hate to be the guy whos first post on a new forum is a quest for help but alas here i am.
(canadian audi 90 cs quattro 1993)
I have search for something directly relating to my problem but i could not find my exact situation. So heres where i am at. When i put the key in any door it unlocks all doors and pump runs fine but when i turn it to lock nothing happens and all that can be heard from the pump(best way to describe) is a valve opens and relieves the vacuum. to be clear the pump does not run when in the lock position.

When i phoned audi refering to the pump number they come up with an H prefix but the pump i pulled out is an A, what bothers me about that is he also told me that the car is to old to input the vin so he went directly by what i told him the car was. and what options it has. btw it only has central locking, no security or IR remote. Not sure if either of these apply but there is an after market deck, and the drivers door button( switch when open) was broken but is now replaced as i like having courtesy lights. Any direction where to lean or ways i can test would be great. Oh i forgot but i also tried jumpering terminals on the 12 pin connector to the lock position and it does the same thing as if i had the key in the lock position.....

In advance thank you for any help

Sounds to me like you have a broken driver's door lock switch. Like Item 17/18 below (sorry I can't find a part number)

4A0862257H comes up as the currenlty available pump control unit, made by VDO, for a "CDN" 1993 Audi 80 quattro. The original 4A0862257A was dropped on May 31, 1997 in favour of a 4A0862257E. Strangely, the 4A0862257E was dropped on May 31, 1995 in favour of the 4A0862257H. (!?). Bottomline, if you want a new one, 4A0862257H is the PN (if it is still available). See second diagram below.

Try locking from the front passenger door. That will confirm if the pump is ok

        thanks guys,

just to confirm it unlocks all from any door or the trunk but does not lock from any.

what makes me think its the pump is it is evident that the CLU is getting a signal from the door locks in the lock position because there is the sound of the pressure valve opening in the CLU itself but the pump doesnt run. But do these pumps usually fail to work in one position but continue to work in the other?

P.S. has anyone had any dealings with digakom.com ? The have listings for just about every pump ever listed....

yes I have dealt with them a few times but they are very expensive, they are quite an easy pump to find on your car so don't be paying digakom prices
