    2+2 lead issues

Hi im having trouble connecting my 1993 80 to my VCDS, using the 2+2 lead

In the fusebox I have the older white/black connection points,

Black connection is live on the left side of plug, earth on the right

White connection is K on the left and L on right

When I connect up VCDS it wont recognise the car, im not getting a live from the black connection it seems

I tried it on my 1995 80 I have scrapped and it works 100 percent.

Anybody know if I have to reconfigure my VCDS on the older 1993 ECU, or would it be safe to run a straight live up to the + on the black connection, without doing damage?

    Any help apprecited

I've had the fuse go on mine before. On the cheap 2+2 leads it's quite easy to fit the connector backwards..

Yep Fuse no. 21 was my problem, Thanks.
The car was never plugged into a computer before in all its 20 years and only fault code was a coolant temp sender

Of course codes are erased if the battery is disconnected but it's a good sign. That temp sensor (on the back of the head on S2) is an important one for correct running.

Output test is always good fun to do now you've got it working.

As newsh just pointed out, the engine coolant temperature sender that the ECU monitors is the "G62" and it is important to how the engine runs.

Click on the G62 label on the top row of labels in this diagram (all the other labels are hot links to engine bay info - might be useful to bookmark it and explore some of the other labels):
