    Radio wiring problem

I'm in the middle of intstalling a radio in my Audi 80 dag dag when I ran into a hurdle.

The car has two connectors, both 4 long and two high.
They connect into a connector which is 4 with and 4 high which all slots in perfect.
First one is for the four speakers, but the second which I assume to be the power supplies and earth fits into my connector but The radio is not getting any power and I don't think these wires are correct as they seem too skinny to be power supplies.
There almost thinner than the speaker cables
Heres a crappy pic of the second connector with what should be the power cables
    image.jpg
    Sorry for poor picture quality.
The wire colours are red/blue, white, brown, and blue/grey.
There's also an extra cable taped up with this connector on its own. It's brown/white.

Could this connector be for some other aux connection that's not fitted in my car?
Seems a bit strange that it's the proper shape connector.
    Any help appreciated.

They should plug into the harness adaptor that come with the headunit. if they dont then im not sure what the issue is. The ones in the car dont go directly into the headunit. if you arent getting power and you are using the headunit harness then try swapping the red and yellow wires over so the red joins the yellow and vice versa. this should do the job.

Your white wire is 12v. This needs to match the pin on your stereo for the 12v feed.

It will depend if your stereo is looking for a switched 12v or a battery 12v feed. They're usually in different places so you may need to move this wire

          Ok. Trial and error.

Well I swapped the red and yellow wires. Nothing.
I then joined them together and success, except the dash lights come on and won't turn off without disconnecting the wires

So let's work through this. Are you trying to plug the car harness into the head unit harness? If so the red wire in the head unit harness is usually perm 12v feed for radio memory etc. yellow wire is head unit feed for ignition live. Try the white wire from the car harness being connected to the red wire. If this doesn't work try connecting the white wire to the yellow wire in the wiring harness for the headunit. For some reason the audis I have had don't work on the ignition switch so I have to take fascia off to turn the headunit off

Yep I'm trying to connect the car harness into the radio harness.
I connected the white to red and then tried joining white to yellow and still no good
The only thing that came close so far was joining red and yellow together which did make the radio work but unfortunately the dash board lights would not turn off

Anyway. I have to head to work shortly, this will give me time to reflect on it.
Thanks for your help so far chriistophski

Not a problem. Next thing I think you need to do is read the manual and see if it tells you which colour wire on the headunit harness is which. I think I'm right in my previous post though. The next thing you need to do is check the harness in the car with one of those little screwdrivers with a light in it. They are cheap as chips from halfords or a DIY shop. With the engine off see if you can find a perm live by touching the tips of the ISO harness in the car. Once you have found that repeat the process with the ignition on ( engine not necessarily running) once you have found this you have found the perm and live feeds in the car. Once identified you just join the relevant wires and hey presto it should work. This I reckon is a 10 min job with a probe screwdriver thingy.

Some on here have mentioned a blue or grey wire in these cars before to do with the headunit but I can't remember why. It's worth investigating though bud. Good luck! Let me know if you need any more help or anything.

(I used to fit car audio for a living many many years ago)

Blue wire is a amp switching wire.
Also used as a live switching wire for electric ariels.
For what this cost me so far I could have bought an S2

If they are anything like the coupes they will have a amplifier connected to the ariel.
Not sure where they are though

Red Blue is fused permenant +12v (No. 4 in the fuse board - check this isn't blown)
                        Brown is earth
White is +12v linked to electric aerial
                        Grey/Blue is illumination feed

There is no switched live as standard in the OEM ISO connector - you have to add one from the ignition switch or somewhere else.

Do you know where the amp is on a coupe?

Amp on the coupe is built into the aerial base in the roof, you can get to it by removing the rear courtesy light.
